James McAtee | Agreement with Forest - £30m overall

So Everton have had a bid of 27m for the Southampton players Dibbley! Yep the player that Southampton said fee was 100m!

Now McAtear has a far better pedigree than this kid who has done nought but be in a relegation team! So for me McAtear is worth at least 35m with 1 year left on his contract!

Well, McAtee was in a relegation team the year before last, and then he's had this season where he could barely get a game during our injury crisis...

Pep doesn't try and change players, he trys to improve them and make them work for the team but the change thing is a myth. Did he change Messi, Robben, Coman, Siva, KDB, has he changed Doku.If he trusts a player and they do the other stuff he asks,he lets them play.
Correct. It’s the biggest myth going. People in the media constantly bemoan Pep stopping Grealish from dribbling. They’re getting paid to come out with this shite. You’d think the penny might drop with them if they noticed the player often playing instead of Jack is Doku.

The ones I spoke to saw him as a luxury player who faded out of games with the odd nice moment.

Have a read of this on the blades forum, only had to look at a few posts to see them questioning us wanting £35m, him not stepping up when it mattered, missing parts of his game and so on.
I think what looks like the whole away end singing his name trumps talking to a few fans.

And we all know how fickle club forums can be. He'll, I'm gonna guess that by December, plenty on here will be ranting about Cherki's low work rate and shouting about him being a luxury player, while others will be eulogising about his mesmerising skills. Anyway, I had a look on the forum you linked and found mostly praise for McAtee...have a look at the attached image, thats one of many such comments.

I think a lot liked him because he helped them get promotion and then chose to go back to them the next season in the Prem. That kind of thing buys you a bit of leeway.

I can't claim to have seen loads of their games that season - apart from the City games I saw them get battered a few times. Home to Arsenal, 0-5 at HT, and he got subbed. Other games, subbed often around 70 mins.

I just hoped he'd be more important for them, as they were dreadful. Although that also gives him a little bit of mitigation too, because they really were dreadful...

Alright then mate, this is just my opinion but if he was truly worth £35-40m he’d have played for us more prominently last season, and if he was the superstar you think he was on loan, clubs would have been queuing up to sign for the asking price at the start of the window.

My arguments have been that Hackney is well worth £20m, that McAtee hasn’t proved as much yet we want almost twice as much for him.

It’s obvious (again imo), by the initial interest in him petering away and the offer from Forrest for £25m, that clubs don’t think he’s worth what we’re asking for.

That may change come the end of the window when teams become more desperate.

And I do rate his talent, it’s obvious, but the shirt weighed too heavily on him at City, and for me, his performances on loan at Blades don’t warrant his asking price.

He’s not yet proven he can do it at this level in the prem.

Pretty much sums up his performances for us so it definitely tracks.

I think while we all think our Academy is great and full of talented players, sometimes some players don't quite make it when they move to playing against men ten years older and at their peak.

I do think that it is a strategy of ours to sell some of these kids without giving them too much first team game time, because it can show that they aren't quite up to it. It's one reason why we're careful to give game time against lower division teams too.

I dare say that if we'd wanted to sell McAtee before he went out on load to Sheff U, we may have got more for him than we will do selling him now. Possibly.

We'd given teams a few glimpses of him, he clearly has talent, he'd ripped up the youth league, clubs were interested. Now a couple of years later they can also see a few negatives as well perhaps.

Edit - Hackney who's played purely in the Championship hasn't yet had his flaws highlighted. Can he step up (if Ipswich go up)? No idea, but he hasn't yet shown that he can't.

I'm talking about two specific players, one (Grealish) who went from a £100M flair player to a boring wide player; and the other (Palmer) who was allowed to leave despite being a recognised talent at the time.

McAtee similar style to both.

Looks like Forest have moved onto Luiz and Fernandes for now. Presumably a chance we return to McAtee if either of those don’t work out.
