James Milner

For fucks sakes... £50-150k a week (correct me if im wrong) and people say give him time?? Its been 12 games, if he wants to earn his fucking money then belt up and start playing. Do a shite job earning that wage and you would be sacked.

He's had one good game and that was against Liverpool. When I used to play for my local club football on a sunday morning and I played shite, I would get dropped to the bench and be told either up my game or deal with sitting on the bench.

Silva came over with no premier league experience at all yet he's been our best player lately, Milner has had plenty of time to find his game. You don't sign players giving them time to get used to playing with the team... he could be off at the end of the season.

Its nothing to do with simply not finding form... just lack of effort, he put 10x more effort in at Villa than he does here. Its a shame our starting 11 is usually picked based on the players price tag than their form... otherwise Milner wouldnt start and AJ would.

*exhales loudly* I fucking give up.

If its one thing he doesn't lack, that is effort. He might not be technically gifted but he will put in a shift. I have seen enough of him in recent years to suggest he can be a very useful asset in our squad and coupled with the fact he is young and English. I agree he has not set the world alight and just because he is on a high wage doesn't mean he will guarantee 5 star performances every game. He is human after all and he is still getting used to the city way of life . Gareth Bale is a good example at Spuds, everyone was writing him off the start of last season. Look at him now, Spurs are reaping the rewards for sticking by him.

Re: 'lack of effort'. Exactly.

His end product has been poor but he has never hidden or never put in less than 100%

I can see similarities between Milner and the Lescott of 12 months ago, and not 'overpriced' or 'not a top 4 player.' Milner and Lescott came from Villa and Everton respectively as we all know, both missed pre season with us, and both of those sides play(ed) 'good old fashioned British football.' Direct, 100mph, 'get stuck in' style of play.

Now as we all know, Lescott didn't set the world on fire when he joined us, in fact if it weren't for Kompany being injured until November(ish) he probably would have been dropped from the side after his first few games, and in my opinion he struggled because he took time to adapt to our style of play, i.e use your brain. He was one of the main targets for criticism on here, until the 5th December when we played Chelsea at home. He was absolutely outstanding, had Drogba(the eventual golden boot winner) in his pocket all game. When Bridge went off injured Hughes even put Barry at left back instead of Lescott because of Joleon's domination. From that game until March (when he got an injury to put him out for the season) he was our best centre half and a cert for the England World Cup squad, if not the first XI.

Now it would seem Milner is taking time to adjust to our style of possession football instead of feeding off knock downs from a Carew/Heskey, but what I think he needs is a Lescott v Chelsea watershed kind of game, and then we will see the best of him. Especially now Super Mario is back and there will be someone in the box to actually get on the end of Milner's crosses. I have great faith in Mancini and Marwood's judgement regarding MIlner, and I have no doubt that his 'watershed game' is just around the corner.

Spot on post. Glad someone else can see the bigger picture

to be fair to Milner, he's no left or right winger, his best position in in the middle, where he did his best games for villa

its a choice between barry or milner...id like to see milner given a chance in the middle, to berate him for lack of effort is baffling and incredibly ignorant, but it seems we've gained a few of these types of fans...or were they always here

Poor guy, just hard worker

Is he fuck shit you bellend, he's clearly playing out of position, when he is actual fact a very good central midfielder, City fans these days are so quick to jump on a players back, give him a chance.
