James Milner

I don't see him starting too many more games now. I'd like to see him at CM instead of outside. He's a good defender but lacks cutting edge and finishing ability. For the games that Silva doesn't play I'd like to see Yaya take Silva's spot and Maybe Milner with Rodwell or Garcia. While we all want a team full of superstar footballers with top level finishing skills a team needs those workmanlike guys who do the dirty work and are happy to play that role. Too many players want to score the goals, be the hero and get the headlines and too few are willing to do the grunt work. I believe this is the reason they won last year. How many players with the talent of Yaya are willing to play that deeper role? If he played higher on the pitch he'd have more goals etc.. Most players of his talent level would be moaning about not having the opportunity to score more. Milner does the dirty work as well and is happy to do so. A squad needs a few of these guys.

What are you on about. Kolo came on and was complete and utter wank so Milner was brought on to protect him and did a great job. He is never going to be a world class winger pinging in great crosses because it's not his bloody position. Milner is a central midfielder but he will never get to play there since we have so many players for that position. What you will get is 100% effort and none stop running for however long he's on the pitch. Stop expecting miracles from a player who is constantly played out of position.
Spot on!

Even so, I think Milner is one of the best crossers in our team. He always tends to be the fulcrum of our wingplay - The united game last season and the friendly games we played are evidence of that. I think Bobby prefers powerful tall men in midfield who can dominate in the air. Milner as CM is more suited to counterattacking football.

I like Milner, when he starts he runs non stop for 90minutes. Gives 100% everytime.
It's just a shame his ability doesn't match his stamina.

He'll come on when trying to close a game...Start big away games over Nasri(my MOM at the swamp last year)...And might play centrally in cups... want to see us do an Arsenal in the carling cup this year though

his worst match I could remember.. not playing much obviously affected his game, he's not close where he has been and it's not only today, he was pretty bad on EURO for england
I thought he did OK in the Euros considering he also had to do Glen Johnson's job for him. Unfortunately this meant he couldn't do his own job as well as he should which was why he got a bad press.

You can't help but admire his drive and work ethic, but I feel like he's lost his way a bit- Not really a CM, not really a winger. Might end up like AJ- bigger fish, smaller pond.
