James Milner

A decent read

Does tend to play to a very repeating standard - and a good standard in my opinion.

Rarely plays excellently (like at Bayern) and rarely plays badly, a wonderful player to have in the squad. I just havent been 100% convinced when he starts in bigger games but i wouldnt change him, he's quite unique. Workrate and build of a centre mid but the crossing of a wonderful winger. He's quite tricky too. Best out wide in my opinion.

Yeah, sums up Jimmy and some peoples (incorrect) attitude to him.
Most on here realise what a valuable asset he is.

in brief, he's been undervalued on here, by some of our own fans, simply because he's english and being english is not fashionable. Gareth Barry got the same treatment. In previous threads, I have always praised him as I've always praised Barry. James Milner is an amazing athlete and has actually become a fantastic footballer in his time at our club.

For a start, I like Jimmy Milner. He's a very good squad player and ideal to rotate from our best 11 when fixtures are coming thick and fast as they are now. Agree he rarely plays amazing and also rarely plays really poor, he's normally decent.

But, I disagree that he's ever undervalued because he's English. Quite the opposite actually.

If Joe Hart was a random foreign goalkeeper he'd have been hounded a hell of a lot more than he was during his poor run of form a month or so ago.

Likewise with Micah, if he wasn't English, or more to the point a homegrown blue... would hebe at the club just now? I think with his injury record he's got a lot of support because of who he is and where he comes from.

Not saying there's anything wrong with either case btw, I'm a big fan of Hart and I like Micah as well. Just offering a different view that English players are certainly not undervalued by any means.

An English Javi Garcia wouldn't receive half the abuse/criticism that he does at the moment. That's the negative side of the coin.

I don't think that he is undervalued for being English is true at all. He was slated on here before the Bayern game, because he'd been very very poor before then this season. The suggestion that he gets abuse for being English is ridiculous, if anything, that saves him from more abuse. I still stand by the opinion that he has only played at the level required for our club about 3 or 4 times this year. He frequently masks a terrible performance by running a lot and visibly trying hard, but he really isn't at the level of our other attacking players at all imo, He's a useful squad player and he'll always try his hardest, but he's little more than that. Underrated by England fans, but definely not underrated not by City fans

If Aguero was English he'd be idiolised even more than he is already. Being English is not unfashionable, but the typical type of footballer produced in England is.

Personally I think Joe Hart received more criticism because he is English. I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as was made out by the press

Agreed.

I've seen it before with other players. For instance in one match, i think it was last year, Nastasic had a stinker of a game and Rodwell was playing really well. Nastasic fucked up again (literally for about 20+ time in that match) and passed the ball to Rodwell when he was surrounded by opposition players (there were city players all over the pitch in space Nastasic could of passed to). Rodwell tried to get rid of the ball but his pass was intercepted and the other team scored.

Now Rodwell was crucified after that match and for months after it he was crucified. One mistake Rodwell made and that was due to Nastasic being a dick and passing the ball to him when he was surrounded. Nastasic on the other hand people were wanking themselves silly over him after that match, even though he was shite.
