To him it's exactly like that. It's simply his job and nothing more. He has no reason to feel any affinity to this or any other club. I certainly don't feel anything towards my employer other than despair each and every day I rock up to the place.
I'll add, too, that footballers are mercenaries barring the odd exception. Delph and KDB certainly wouldn't have grown up giving us a second thought but they disrespected their clubs hugely to move here, Moreso Delph. I tried to say that earlier and was met with excuses for the pair of them and how they got their moves. They're mercenaries like Milner and like 99% of footballers the world over.
I'm hazarding a guess that the villa fans who booed Delph were likely to have been slated on here....
I don't think Delph handled his move well at all. You can't commit and then leave. Had he been honest he'd still probably get booed by that Villa lot mind. I know it's just a job for a lot of them but that doesn't mean we have to accept it. You might be fine with Milner being a twat but I'm not. He's now just spent the afternoon talking about how playing for England is a dream, and being captain is an incredible honour. So there's still some love for the game on a personal level for him. You can be a slave to the money but still have respect for your former fans and club and not celebrate when scoring against them. Most manage that at least.
