James Milner

Two different players with different styles....

Milner was superb yesterday and his work rate is second to none. But it's not all work rate, he's got speed, certainly over a short distance, and can run past players which is something we've been lacking down the wing, esp right hand side.

I can't subscribe to the Milner vs Nasri view, we need them both.

I'd like to think Milner understand he IS important to this squad, incredibly so, and not getting a start is a high price price to pay, but shouldn't be seen as a reflection of his worth to us.

The ultimate utility player, not a jack of all trades, master of none, but an all round footballer, who understands football, defending,,tracking back, positional sense, and is a goal threat, Milner and Zaba are cut from the same cloth, both grafters who will die on their feet for the cause.
I hope Hodgson was watching,

That performance yesterday was no surprise at all to the blues who watch him week in week out.

Scared about this contract situation over Milner feel like he's a key part in our squad whether Manuel Pelligrini realizes it or not. We need him because sometimes overpaid Nasri can slack off and sit in his pool of money without putting forth effort on the pitch. Need him to push Nasri and help with the diaspperance of Yaya Toure and cover for injuries to our CDM. Come on City give him new contract and stop waiting. He's better than Ward Prowse or Morgan Scheilderiln

If we lose Milner it will be a cock up of epic proportions. He needs to start the majority of the games from now on to convince him he will get the game time he wants so he signs the new contract.

I agree can't let him or Joe Hart go

When you consider what it might cost to buy a HOMEGROWN, ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL, who can play every midfield position, both full back positions and winger positions, and isn't a half bad goalkeeper? Then, get him as fit as Milly, get him to track back, and yet pop up in the 85th minute of a game, where he has already covered almost 12km, with a delayed one-two (where he has timed his run to perfection) with Silva and cushion his on-the-run volley pass....with his "wrong foot".... to the only player in a scoring position to stop your main title opponents from getting 3 points.

Find me THAT GUY for whatever you would pay Milner, and I'll say "Buy him!" and let Milner go. Until then, unless he really wants to go back to Leeds and play for his favorite team, I say "PAY THE MAN!"

Agreed, Milner also doesn't get enough respect for his creativity. Sure, not every touch and dribble is perfect, but 98 out of 100 is still A+

Rumours saying City still have Ross Barkley as a transfer target i.e. next Summer

Which would be the better option if it came down to it

1) Lose Milner next summer and spend £ 30 million plus on Barkley
2) New contract for Milner and Hart and Milner plays more regularly in a formation of

Hart

Zabaleta Kompany Mangala Kolarov

Milner Fernando

Toure

Jovetic Silva

Aguero

Subs:
Caballero
Sagna
Clichy
Demichelis
Fernandinho
Nasri
Navas
Dzeko

Also should we be looking at young players produced by other teams, after all is there not good things expected of Seko Fofana our EDS midfield player who is reported as to be someone who can fill Toure's place eventually ?

Also talk of Ward Prowse of Southampton, how would we fit him in and is he better than what we have, apart from being English which is an advantage for out homegrown quota ?

Worst thing we could do is but#y Barkley and Ward Prowse and use them sparingly and then get accused again of stifling English talent.

Talk also of buying Reus, who from the above lineup do we leave out or sell to accommodate new signings ?

Should we look at selling Toure or even Nasri or Fernandinho next summer to accommodate a new midfield player such as Barkley or even Pogba (another player we have been linked with, but who I think if sold by Juventus, will go to PSG) ?

Should we look at selling Jovetic or Navas next summer to accommodate Reus, who we have been linked with from Dortmund ?

What about Dzeko are there better options as support\backup for Aguero

Thus would this be a better or worse 11\squad than the above ?

Hart

Zabaleta Kompany Mangala Kolarov

Milner Fernando

Barkley

Silva Reus

Aguero
Subs:
Caballero
Sagna
Clichy
Demichelis
Fernandinho or Ward Prowse
Fofana
Jovetic or Navas or Lopes
Dzeko

Personally I would like Milner to stay and play more, either playing more games in place of Fernandinho or if Toure fails to reach the high standard we know he can, play more when Toure is left out of the starting 11.

I prefer Milner to both Nasri and Fernandinho in the team.

Not sure we should be held to ransom by Everton if we pursue Barkley, better stick with Milner and let Fofana come into the squad to see if he can provide good support when the team needs it.

As or Reus, could Lopes possibly provide what he has for City once he has a season completed with Lille ?

When transfer targets are mentioned always best to think of what you believe is Citys' current strongest 11 and then look at which player in what position could be realistically improved on, and then look at the subs bench you think is currently best and how that could be improved on with better squad players.

At present I think for next year onwards we could perhaps be made stronger with a better left back and we need to see\decide upon Toures' future,. If he was to leave next summer we would need a central midfield player.

Nasri is to up and down for me with his form and thus I would look at an alternative to him, but with his new contract I do not think he is going anywhere, but if he was, Fofana or Ward Prowse or Lopes to take his place in the squad ?

Thoughts ?

I love the early hour Yank input and perspective on all things City,so refreshing.

I love listening to smarmy ass twunts who have nothing intelligent to say, and who couldn't lace my boots when it comes to football or football knowledge, but then to each his own.

Sorry work found me in Tokyo, where I was up watching the game until 2am, instead of in my SC seat in 202. Now, go Yank yourself!

you would be fucking stupid to sell Fernandinho, do you even realise what Fernandinho brings to this team? We would have no pace in the midfield, and look at 2012/13 season when we had Barry instead of Fernandinho, absolute woeful, slow etc.

We would have got murdered at Bayern if there wasn't Fernandinho.

In Football Manager that would probably work.

I have always been a fan of Jimmy. Yes sometimes his passing and crossing is wayward but then he has usually come on as a sub with no game time and his timing is off but he leaves nothing out there he delivers 100% each and every game... My rants are always about players who have the gift of great talent but who lack heart and effort. I place players like McManaman ,Balotelli and Nasri in that group. Give me a Milner every time...
