Yes and now witha. new keeper they will also press the keeper.....so not a great idea.

Id rather put our energy and money into buying another top class centre half and a right back which we are in dire need of

A new keeper is not a priority - right back and centre half are
A new keeper is a priority if our existing ones want to leave…

That’s the risk with any young player though. Ederson was only young when we signed for city as well.

Unless we only buy ready made players this could always happen
Yeah maybe and the club will know a lot about Traffords mentality and if he's able to deal with the pressure.

I will say though I'm absolutley certain we won't lose both Ederson and Ortega. Pep just won't allow that imo. He'll want someone he trusts he can rely on if needed. The GK position is too important to take gambles on.

Yes i did alsosay that if Ederson wants to leave there is little we can do.
Although we could hold him to his contract for another year.....!
I know mate, I just wouldn’t think that was a good idea, he didn’t exactly have the best of seasons last year and holding him against his will is hardly likely to cheer him up. He obviously wants to go, imo.

A new keeper is absolutely a priority. Both Ortega and Ederson are out of contract next season so we definitely need to act now.

Personally can't see us replacing all 3 keepers. Too much upheaval. Also would be tough for a 22 year old to come in as number 1 and have nobody else in his position to get guidance from as they are also all new to City.

For me the likeliest scenario surely is Pep promoting Ortega to number 1 initially while Trafford gets his feet under the ground and learns to play for a Pep side.
Trafford was around the clubs for a 6 years, should have bwen made 2nd choice, but we bought Ortega and so. he left to persue games, he would return. with 3 years first team football and experience of coping with a team where tge defence was nin existent and solid, he knows the club and the set up.

If we went with Ortega as first choice we are battling for 5th place, he is ok but has no. consitency, I don't think. this is the case with trafford, he comes i. as 1st choice and will be for years imho

Well we wont get much for either due to age, contract situation etc so holding onto one of them or both till end of contracts makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things....a 3 mill deal for Ederson is a drop in the ocean in comparrison to the overall money involved in the club

The only advantage to getting trafford is that he is HG and knows the club

I have no doubts about his shop stopping and if he was coming in as number 2 to learn more then ok.....

But as a number one it will mean a change in tactics etc and Im not sure we have the back 4 for it.

Agreed but Im not sure getting in a keeper who aint as good with his feet with our back 4 at present then is also very risky

If we had a stronger back 4 then Id be less concerned about it but our back 4 is pretty poor at present and needs major surgery

Newcastle have had more rejections than a drunk bloke at last orders.

Players would rather sign for United - a club equivalent to Al Nassr but without the weather.

Newcastle United- a big club? Like calling a goldfish a shark. Isak and Livramento will move on when bigger clubs come circling.

I agree, right back definitely.

Centre back I don't think we will go there. I'd love us to do so, but who can we get rid of to bring someone in? Stones, Ake, Akanji all want to stay. If a CB comes in, one of those has to leave, and then it's finding a buyer who will pay their wages. All on huge wages. Stones 250k, Ake 160k and Akanji 180k. Got a feeling Hugo Viana is trying anything he can to cut down the wage bill.

No one is as good as Eddie, but Trafford is decent enough. I agree about the central defence and right back, I’m certainly not convinced by Dias.

Think we need to do something on the goalkeeper front given both current 1st and 2nd choice out of contract next year Would like to see Eddie stay, cash In Ortega and bring in another long term keeper. That’s not what will happen as Eddie seems to want gone so likely Ortega stays and happy to take risk on Trafford as not much else out there unless Donuramma could be leveraged out of PSG. Trafford looks very decent but almost impossible to replace Eddies outfield ability.

Have england ever produced a best in the world goalkeeper? Even a world class one? I have Hart a level below. Maybe Seamen but prob similar level to Hart. Shilton no. Have to go all the way back to Banks and i wasnt around to see him. So my point is having englands number 1 for the next 10 years locked down, not really that much of an achievement/incentive is it?

Re the age issue. Haaland was 21 when he signed for City. I would suggest that the pressure on a centre-forward is almost as great as that on a goalie
Erling wasnt coming from the championship, he was coming from smashing the bundesliga and being excellent in the champions league(and international goals) with not a sniff of failure anywhere hed been. Not even remotely close to a comparison.

We have been linked with keepers from. the portuguese and french premier leagues, I would say the championship is as competative as both overall, you see many players from portugal and other leagues move to the championship before making it in the prem or the top 3 european. leagues wolves 2017 contingent for example

Can you imagine if this guys name was Juan El Traffido and was the next big Spanish wonder keeper, how different the replies would be!
I don't think so.
One of Traffords pluses is that he is HG.
He has also spent a long time with us and is used to playing in England.
If he was Juan El Traffido we would not be thinking of him.
