Jamie Foxx Racist Comment

Overall yeah he's not amazing, I just think that people are to quick to attack 'Comedians' and I honestly do think we will start seeing more censorship of material if people just start being outraged by the slightest thing because a Newspaper is hard for a story like the Brand/Ross phone call. That was a joke, two people complained when it was aired, I think it was The Mail or The Sun that declared it an outrage, then you had twenty odd thousand people complaining. The press even wanted Gordon Brown comments on the issue like he should give a fuck. People react without thinking.

By the way I don't like Brand/Ross that much either and it may appear that I am coming across as a defender of shit comedians.

I don't think has got anything to do with Foxx's profession (he's a comedian now?) Other than it elevates him so his opinion can be heard by more people. Its the context of what has been said, not the person who said it thats of more importance here.

Yeah I take your point and I do agree with you.

I think the 'white woman' comment is harder one to discuss though as racial imbalance exists in society and only sometimes rears it's head like this.

Traditionally racial harmony has been that Black people will be hassled by police, denied decent education etc but they are allowed to make crap 'whites can't dance' jokes as comedians etc whereas White people can do what they like but they can't make crass jokes about people of colour no matter what.

It's to this end I've never found black comedians to be funny whatsoever, they only really talk about white people not being able to dance or wearing tight jeans, it's hardly Bill Hicks to put it mildly.

Funny to see all the lefties on here say it's not racist, and the only defence they can muster up is that a black man said it. It would be 'different' if a white man had said the same thing about Elvis/Lennon.

When are the MOWO awards this year by the way?

Are you stupid...?

Besides Morris Dancing music (traditional folk) can you name me music originated by Whites to hold such an event, knowing that you already celebrate NME, Kerrang, Smash Hits, etc without giving that many props to artist of 'colour'...?

Thats probably down to the people who choose to study, master and perform that genre of music, as opposed to who the body choose to 'recoginse' a la MOBO. But that works on both sides... so i don't quite get your point?

Please!!

I'm sure we've had a similar discussion before!

Here's my point...

Since the years have gone by and in this country, there have been award ceremonies for music, generally voted for and accepted by White people. And whilst that status quo has been kept, there's been much ado about nothing. Then came the MOBO Awards and...

HEY PRESTO!! Why the fook do these Black people feel the need to give awards out to Black people?? But, then, very early on in its conception it recognised White artists as contributors, whereas Black people were not recognised for their work by their counterparts for the ABSOLUTE LONGEST TIME!!

That's the point.

I agree with you but the MOBOS is as wank and pointless as the Brits ultimately, just black puppets thick as shit instead of white ones.

Richard Pryor was awesome man but he was the king, alot of black comedians are just Pryor wannabes but then you've got Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock are quality aswel and have material that identify the problems holding back there own race.

The people you mentioned are amusing yeah but they're whole comedy resolves, perhaps rightly, around them being black. Hence Rock can do his 'nigga vs black' sketch and it is funny, this also allows him to do the whole 'man white people are uncool' scthick which whilst amusing can become dull after the millionth time.

It's a social problem more than anything, due to the racism they face daily, black people do appear to get away with mentions of whites where as if a white comedian/person jokes about black people it's deemed suspect.

Agreed TMQ, but that's NOT the point. It's also a reason why many top Black acts from the States refused to go, in the beginning, because of the w*nkness of it!! It's gotten a little better. I digress...

The REAL point is about RECOGNITION, at last.

Nothing else.

Oh come on, Jimi Henrdix, whilst heavily influenced by Blues played to many white audiences and fit the stereotypical "White Publications" you mentioned earlier. If he was around today he'd still be on every cover, every week... because he was 'bigger' than anything out right now; talent, charisma, that "X" factor people talk about.

i don't agree with your point as the awards you mention; 'Kerrang, Smash Hits etc' were never set up for "white music" nor to recognise "white artists". The MOBO's, as you've admitted, were.

I guess the awards Bloc Party have won were just a token gesture, or all the acolades Spice Girls won were just because of Mel B and wanting to seem "diverse" or some other corporate slang?

I guess since this country has had a predominantly white origin, then its always going to results in a higher percentage of white votes... that doesnt mean a higher percentage of white acts picking up awards though.

I think we're getting off the actual crux of this thread now though...

The recognition is there, in the MOBOS, but at the same time it still gives awards to Rhianna and Joss Stone as opposed to Public Enemy and the like. Sometimes the likes of Dizzee Rascal will break through who has a modicum of credibility and saleability but otherwise it just looks like a token appeasement for the decades of whites appropriating black music.

Real music lovers would shun award shows and the like and accept that decent artists of any race simply wont win many awards in their time.

Chuck D is one of my all time heroes and I agree with him that modern black music is nothing but racist stereotyping and inverted black and white minstrel show. So long as the guy has a black face and talks about guns, basketball, hoes and money he'll be ok, just don't dare try to be intelligent or sensitive because 'homey don't play that'. Sadly.
