January defenders

Both our "targets" Chillwell and Soyuncu are getting exposed today. Chillwell are getting rinsed by Mahrez every 1v1 and KDB just rounded Soyuncu like a traffic cone before assisting Jesus for our 3rd goal.

I'd like Dayot Upamecano from Leipzig, been impressed when I've watched him. Right footed that plays left CB atm which suggests he could do well on either side. Great feet and defending, combined with physicality. He's also rapid which would suit our high suicide line during counters. His contract expires soon as well which means we could get him for around 50m, which is a bargain for such a young lad with world class potential. Truly ticks every box, and I think he's been on our radar if i recall correctly

What City needed was a stop-gap defender, a competent 30 something until Garcia and Harwood Bellis were ready. That player was JFE. City fans let hatred of Man Utd cloud their judgment.

Dont know if its a clarkie, but I agree on Evans. A very good cb who would do us a world of good.

Koulibaly is 28, and the most obvious signing for quite some time
 
I can't see any transfers in Jan. Do we really expect a brand new player in any position to get up and running and have a positive impact on the team instantly...?
 
Daily Fail linking is with Marquinhos probably cobblers but he’d be very good next to Laporte.

Agree for January. Think we'll buy in the summer though with Otamendi going and one of Garcia or Harwood Bellis getting a loan somewhere.

Nacho and Vertonghen are old (29 and 32) and free in the summer. Just a shame that Alderweireld just signed a new contract

Totally agree about JFE, he looked a class act yesterday and would have been a very good signing.

Garcia and HB look good, but they will not be regular 1st players anytime soon, it's far too an important position for young, inexperienced kids, however good they look.

Garcia could be 4th choice, but only if we go and sign a least one world class CB. Otto will go and serious question marks about JFS, the only positive for his future is he is homegrown.
 
One good game and suddenly we don't need a good defender any more. Of course we need. Koulibaly would be a dream. The problem is that he prefers to play as LCB as well. Skriniar would be a good shout as well. We need a no-nonsense defender (like Kompany). Personally I rate Otamendi very high, but we still need another CB as Stones is just not reliable. Way to soft for a defender. Would rather see Otamendi charge, and make a mistake, than watching Stones facing the opponent forever.
As for Garcia and HB, probably another 2-3 seasons until they could be regulars at a team like City.
 
We can't keep ignoring the deficit that is the back line. If Mendy stays fit (I know... dream on) our key and glaring need is at CB. We've had a few good games... and somehow now we forget how we're torn to shreds almost every other one. We dominated possession the entire first portion of the game yet we get cleaved open by a decent pass and a pacey forward due to our Swiss cheese defense. It'll happen again and even Wolves have enough pace and ingenuity to do so. We have but given up on the league however I think LiVARpool will give up their first chunk of points in the coming 5 games. We all know how psychologically feeble they are so if strengthening our back shores us up for the CL fight ahead and pressures the Scouse bastards in the meantime... Win Win.

There are good/excellent players gettable in Jan.
Koulibaly is the obvious perfect age to not interfere with garcia & TBH. Strength, height, leadership, pace. If reports are correct he wants to leave.
Tah amazed no one has taken a chance on him. Speed, strength, passing, height. An elegant beast with what I recall a decent transfer fee. A decent age.
Konate young, great on the ball, good speed, good height, possibly expensive and could block the young lads chances.
3 examples of gettable cbs in jan. Any of the 3 with stones, laporte & Garcia/THB would be a strong spine. Whoever we sign they must be physically strong, good in the air and fast.

Ok delphinho, is there rules how many times you can name a player in a thread about any defenders that will help. I'd say maybe I've mentioned him 4 times over 2/3 threads. Thanks for the reply though buddy. Merry xmas
