But who to? United are out after Sanchez. Other than Chelsea, I can't see a PL team go for him. Can't see any other big team prepared to pay a massive fee for him

I have got a feeling we will get the Fred deal done but he will go back to Shakhtar.

A bit like Liverpool and Naby Keita.

Other than that I think we are victims of our own success in that I think Pep and the club worry that certain additions could really spoil the team spirit.

It’s clear we are interested in Evans and I think the only reason he isn’t a City player is because Arsenal and I think Leicester are also interested, meaning the £20m we were willing to go to could end up £30m.

No way are we paying that. I would be astonished.

With their scattergun approach to transfers I wouldn't be surprised if they signed Bale and gave him a Faberge Egg a week on top of the half a million quid.

They won't be at that point yet. However Bale would be looking for pay parity with Sanchez (along with De Gea and Pogbad).

For all you lazy bastards that can’t keep up in the transfer forum, here’s a summary based on reliable reports and ITK’s info on our comings and going as it stands.

In this window and out of that list we will bring in a CB, most likely Evans, who will play 3rd choice behind Stones and Otamendi. Mangala will be 4th choice unless Kompany is fit. Adarabioyo loaned out presumably.
We may also bring in a Toure replacement but they’ll be loaned back to their club until summer, seems we’re prioritising Fred. Also rumblings about Zaha but I can’t tell if that’s for now or next season.

Then in summer we’ll get another CB, who I’d imagine will push Otamendi for his spot in the team and sell Mangala. This could be Umtiti but he might sign a new contract at Barca, in that case I think we’ll get someone who we’ve not been linked to yet. Evans to drop down to 4th choice and Kompany will stay but not be depended on.
Don’t think we’ll sign any new full backs, Mendy will be fit and Delph or Zinchenko will be the cover at LB. Mumblings that Danilo isn’t happy at lack of game time, he could potentially move on but we have Maffeo who could be Walker’s understudy.
Zaha/*insert your chosen alternative here* to come in and be our rotation/bench option to cover Sterling and Sane. Another attacker may come in depending on if Aguero leaves.
We’ll already have our Toure replacement sewn up and will rotate with Ferna for the deep lying midfield role.

No doubt there’ll be some youth prospects that we’ll sign too. And plenty of twists and turns, plane tracking, taxi’s chasing vans, U-turns, gazumping and drama.
