January transfers

Re: January Targets

I think if Isco isnt getting regular games at Madrid a sly bid for him could well happen.
Looking closer to home and out of Midfielders who would add to us I always liked the look of James McCarthy off Everton but dont think we will pay the money for him. He is progressing along very well and in my opinion it wont be long to see him moving to a top 4 in a year or 2. Also the Southampton duo of Ward- Prowse could well be Milners replacement if he goes. Also Morgan Schneiderlin could do a job in midfield but would rather Ward Prowse.

I reckon Lopes will replace Milner when he will likely leave on a free next season.

I think both Ward-Prowse and Barkley need another season or two before they can make the step up as well.

The player I believe we should be aiming for next season is Reus, him and a long term replacement for Yaya.

Midfield will need strengthening big bid for barkley/pogba??

I get the impression we dont want to pay silly £50-£60mvprice tags for players - we'd refused to pay daft money for Cavani and I think City board will stand firm .....

I agree.

I doubt Txiki and Ferran would sanction any purchase over £50m unless the player could recoup most if not all of his fee back through merchandise etc...

Re: January Targets

Well that sounds pretty shit, I hope not. Otherwise once this group of players has moved on in a few years we may as well resign ourselves to the bad old days of rags & Chelsea winning the title.

Hopefully this summer was just a blip to deal with FFP, as if we don't spend on players like Real, Barca, Chelsea, etc do we can forget the CL if we don't win it in the 2 or 3 years.

You don't just have to spend your way to success, Dortmund and Atletico proved that.

You only have to look at Bayern, they never really if ever spend £30m-£35m+ on a player yet for me they have the best squad in Europe.

We have proved with Kompany, Zabaleta, Hart and to a certain extent Silva and Toure that you don't have to spend huge money (£40m+).

Now that the summer transfer window is shut, where do you think we need to or will strengthen?

Do we really need this thread at this point in time.

Lets go and play some football I say and then see where we are in Dec.

I'm sure the professionals have a plan, but lets enjoy some playing time now

Why are you here then, in the Transfer forum, if you don't want to discuss transfers?

Re: January Targets

It will be a disappointing window for posters expecting a star name.
