In the summer, a deep-lying playmaker (Verratti would be ideal) and a young right-back are all we need if we replace Demichelis with Denayer and Angelino comes back from NYCFC to be the eventual replacement for Kolarov and Clichy.

But what type of player do we go for? Megastar, safe bet, decent 4th choice? And how quickly could we expect a new signing to settle into our defence given its obvious frailties?
It doesn't seem that the club know what the long term prognosis is for Kompany. Whether he'll come back as captain and regular starter. Or whether he'll have to manage the rest of his career
There's a huge question mark over Mangala. It seems that January could be a make or break month for him. How will he react if we bring in another player ahead of him? His confidence seems quite fragile, if someone is brought in ahead of him, will that be the end of his City career?
How much faith do the club have in Denayer?
It seems that there are so many uncertainities, I think the club will try to make do until the summer. Hope that the Otamendi-Mangala partnership gels in the next month and that Kompany returns reasonably soon.

We're doomed then if mangala is in possession!:)I'd look for a solid premiership or championship defender to replace DMC. Wouldn't want to spend an outrageous amount. Someone like DMC when he first came here. I'd still think about Williams at Swansea. We don't want to use a backup slot on a non HG player.
Mangala is in possession, it's up to him to prove himself.
