Jason Denayer

It's easy to forget that the last 6 games of last season involved MDM and Mangala playing in what looked a very solid defence with a run of clean sheets. Binning him off after that would not have gone down well on here at all. The reason Denayer went on loan was because we signed Oto, something that went down very well on here! We had agreed with Denayer that if we brought in a 4th CB he would be allowed to go on a season loan, this was an arrangement linked to him signing a new 5 year deal last summer - again something that went down very well on here.

So pellers get's a load of flak because of decisions that were all seen as good ones at the time? shame he doenst have a crtystal ball like some of the bluemooners!!!

It's maybe not the original decision to keep Demi that I have the biggest problem with, it was 'grini's insistence on playing him in big games when it was absolutely obvious that he wasn't up to it. I read somewhere on here that out of the 9 PL games Demi started we lost 7! He could and should have played Sagna or Fernandinho at centre back and we would have fared much better in the games against Liverpool, Leicester, Stoke and United.

does anyone know how Denayer's season went and in what regard he was held at Galatasaray?

Some youtube highlights of his season at Galatasaray....Looks a very natural RB in the highlights...good on the ball and can put a good ball into the box....He'll give us flexibility as can play CB and RB but from the highlights he seems a natural fit for RB position at City and this is a big need for us..

My question re Denayer would be purely down to.whether he has the right physical attributes to leg it up & down the wing every week, if he plays at fullback. Could that be the cause of his injuries ? He could be like Micah in that regard.

Otherwise, if that isn't a problem for him, I think he would have been a huge asset there this season & can be next if required. He also looks a natural for a back 3.

Could the injuries have been caused by his inadequate pre season training at City last summer? After all so many other players who went through the same pre season spent all season getting injured too. Contrast this to the previous season when he had pre season at Celtic and barely missed a game for them?

Nothing would surprise me in that regard.

I can’t argue with that. I’m not a Pellers hater but his insistence on reverting to older players who were clearly out of form was a recurrent failing. I have no doubt Denayer would have been a better option in every instance where Demi got on the pitch this season. However it is easy to pick the squad in hindsight and Demi did finish the 15/16 season very well.

As for Denayer being a RB or CB. He was outstanding at Celtic as a CB. He played a very dynamic game - carrying the ball out of the defence and spraying passes about. I would think he is a natural Pep CB. It’s hard to judge his RB play as I don’t think any of us have seen enough to judge. My only concern is that he might not have the energy levels and all out pace to get up and down the wing for 90 mins – we will have to wait and see.

I have some doubt mate. Which is why he isn't here. Admittedly I only saw him in his (grim) performance against Real Madrid last summer, but I am prepared to permit those who know and coach him to make the judgement. I reckon there's an 80% chance he wont be plying his trade in the PL in 2 years time. Heard it all before with a hundred players.

But you never know.......................................
