Looks good but what's the point in him playing for Celtic?

He needs to go to a decent side in a great league so we can see if he has the ability needed.
Use Shady's blog http://shadygiz.blogspot.co.uk/ and watch the 2nd half (on now) and turn the volume up, for a 19 year old playing his first professional season of football it's a damn good experience.

Scottish football will not and never will get a player to a standard ready to get into our first team.

he's come on leaps and bounds this season
looks very composed and assured and is comfortable with both feet

it's been an excellent loan for the young man

Auld Firm derby cup semi final on a dodgy pitch at Hampden park, loads of beavy duty defending, knocking passes around under pressure, huge atmosphere.

For a 19 year old, playing in a key position, in a game like that, you just can't buy experience like that. Exactly the stuff he needs to get him used to playing under physical & mental pressure ready to learn the next level.

He plays a similar style of defending to the job he would be asked to do at City too, where he has to do the job & not rely on systems & packed midfield. It's up to him to get it right. And he does.

Yes I thought the same. Looks like he fits the athletic mode to play our style as well. Much more so than Rekik, who always seemed a little slow and ponderous (but not that I have seen either play loads of matches, so I may be wrong here.)

Course it will. Just depends on where the player is with his development. Yea there's no point in throwing Dedryk or someone on loan there (to develop at least) but this is Denayer's first season - you've gotta start somewhere and this move seems to be working well for him. If he's still at celtic in a couple of seasons then you may have a point but for now, you don't have a very good one

I caught the end of the Celtic game this weekend (beating Dundee 2 nil). My thoughts are:

1, Scottish football is w@nk.
2, Celtic are a half decent team that are clearly used to dominating inferior opposition so it’s hard to place the standard. They are nowhere near PL, I think they would survive the Championship but not thrive.
3, Denayer looks a big unit and was very comfortable in defence, kept it very simple in possession. This loan has gone very well for him – invaluable experience at his age.
4, He is in a good partnership with Van Dijk who looks a bit more composed but then he is about 5 years older.
