Not really got a problem with his defending on the first. One goes one covers is how most teams defend, particularly when there's fuck all midfield cover.

Hes just been pointing to a Celtic midfielder to close down as the daft twat was just stood next to him.....as I said earlier like my CBs to stay in the middle,so many goals come from CBs hunting the ball down when midfield should be dealing with it.

Interesting that Denayer chased back on several occasions & got in front of the striker, yet the striker must have been behind him when the ball was played, as Denayer tends to track a player who is running, so if he was stood still presumably the striker was being played onside by Van Dijk. Then we see how Denayer never lost a 1v1 against anybody, but Van Dijk was absolutely skinned by Icardi on the one occasion he was needed to stop him. Then at the death, Denayer giving away a free kick was a result of trying to rescue the situation from a shocking header straight to Inter, by Van Dijk.

I think Denayer tonight, coped as well as a City cb would have done & Van Dijk showed why nobody has yet signed him.

Really impressed by Denayer tonight. He is almost good enough already for our 4th cb spot imo.

Lol at Celtics defending there. Nothing Denayer could do for the second goal really though, didn't catch the first.

i though Denayor was out of position for the first one

I agree,CBs should stay at home in that situation....maybe midfields fault for not dealing with it?

Denayer was only caught out because he made a simple pass to Matthews who promptly gave it away and the ball chipped in for Shaqiri to run onto. I thought he had a decent enough game overall, I like his medium range passing which is better already than our current CBs He should definitely be in our squad next season, not on loan.

Well Virgil got caught the wrong side of Icardi and instead of cutting off the angle, tried to win the ball back. Apart from that he dealt okay with the one on ones. As did Jason. The goals were the fault of Gordon (who has been great up to this game) and Izaguirre who should have followed Shaqiri for the first and hit Virgil for the second.

I would be very confident of Virgil being a success in the EPL because he has the basics there already. His biggest problem is his concentration and that would come with playing at a higher level and with better players. As for Jason, he probably played his best game tonight for Celtic and is improving all the time. I would rather he stay at Celtic, but if not then he has to go to another EPL team on loan as going back to 4th choice would just stop the improvement in his play.

Just got in from work so not seen any football tonight.......but it seems our boy is stepping up to every challenge placed in front of him! great news for him and City!

Interestingly, I thought the same totally. It's not like he doesn't have his flaws, but probably will always have, like every other human being, but if I imagine how would Kompany etc. play in the very same fixture, it's stupid to think they would have played any better.

That would imply Denayer has every chance to make the City squad for the next year.

I didn't get to watch the match last night due to work so cheers guys for the analysis much appreciated!

It was van Dijk too. Denayer stopped Inter attacking players, didn't make a mistake (at least I don't remember one, maybe there was one or two little mistakes). he let speedy Palacio nothing, good game for Jason
