Am I the only one who didnt overly rate de Jong? Yes he was a hard tackler and determined and a laugh on the training pitch but Tiote offered Newc that last year and was as effective as de Jong. There are many players you could replace de jongs talents with, but I don't think that was what RM was after and certainly isn't what he got with Garcia and Rodwell. He wanted a player that could do all that and pass forward and pass directly. Like Xavi Alonso said - he was amazed that in England we rated tackling as a skill whereas in other countries that was just expected and technique was far more important. He should know being prob the best in the deep lying midfield position which we are crying out for.

+1

NDJ might have been Europa League quality, but we are trying to BUILD for Champions League every year. WIth his age, his contract demands and his willingness to leave, it was a no-brainer for City. Notice, he is not making positive waves in Milan, where technique is prized above most else!!

Think you should check that mate... before doing his knee Nige had started basically every game for Milan....

I thought he was much better at Newcastle. Criticising his performance against Reading is rather like criticising a goalkeeper for not making any saves in a game when the opposition don't have any shots. He was largely redundant (although it was noticeable that Reading had their best chances after he went off).

He's clearly not a NDJ, doesn't make those sliding tackles. But he looks like he could be a much better distributor of the ball. His problem at the moment is that he isn't getting enough of the ball, probably still hasn't gained the trust of his teammates yet (and its noticeable at City that the players are quite selective about who they pass the ball to.)

agreed

Nigel's distribution in the 3-5-2 was actually better than in a two man midfield. I'm not living in the past but when you ask it's always NDJ>Garcia.

Milan are essentially a Europa League team this season....or will be next season - if they are lucky.

Started to look better recently, not easy settling into such a speedy league when your not blessed with pace but starting today will fill him with confidence.

Having a much better game today so far, but hasn't been tested much except during the odd counter.
