Javi Martinez

You'll see that I'm right next season. Highline and pressing is basically the core of Pep's game, City won't play deep line while he's here.

You seem to think that a press requires a high line. It doesn't. It simply doesn't. They whole point of playing out of the back is to invite the attacking players into your half so you can play it past them and then have acres of space for your attackers to play in (as opposed to a parked bus).

I can't believe anyone actually, genuinely thinks this.

At one point in Pep Confidential, I think one of the coaching staff says Javi Martinez is the best CB, pivot and attacking midfielder in the team. He's routinely talked up for his understanding of the game, and his role in Pep changing tactics mid-game.

"decent squad player" FFS, if he stayed fit I doubt he'd miss a single game for us.I get the injury record worries, I sort of understand reservations about speed (although I think they're completely wrong), but actually thinking he's not good? Bloody hell.

Just to emphasize your point regarding Martinez tactical versatility, in game against Dortmund Pep played Martinez as a 10 because he wanted a full on high press. Later in the game Pep moved him to cdm/pivot, and he finished the game at Centre back.

If Bayern wanted to keep him then they would have leaked stories to the press. They would have made damn sure that every man and their dog knew that the player was pushing for a move away.

Everything about the way in which this seems to have happened suggests that Bayern were more than willing to sell. Bayern are never willing to sell their best players.

I'm not arguing that he's a bad player. I just don't see him as a player that will make much of a difference next season. His utility is that he can play both CB and CDM. For me he doesn't even start ahead of Kompany or Otamendi.
