Why? that makes no sense! why would Kompany and Lescott (our 2 best centre backs) be competing with each other for one spot? obviously (as has been the case before lescott was injured) Kompany will play RCB and Lescott LCB as Komps is right footed, Toure and Boateng will be pushing them both, but i wouldn't be surprised if Toure left, with another top centre half (Chiellini?) joining!?!?

maybe.

i can see Toure going too, but again that would be senseless unless he demanded it, defences need to be settled and to have an understanding and all 3 of Toure, Kompany and Lescott appear to have that now. so for that i'd hang on to them all.

How old is Toure anyway?

Toure's 29, and yeah i agree actually, it would be good to hang on to him, strength in depth will be vital next season, and his experience will be useful if we make lots of younger signings. To be fair to him, he's not been so bad recently, although he still makes awful judgements, we need better, but as a squad player he would be great, but . . . . i'd rather give Onouaha thopportunity to step in than Toure . . .

City have lined up their first signing of the summer, £11m German international defender Jerome Boateng.

The Blues have rejected claims a deal has already been agreed with Hamburg for the 6ft 3ins star, and the Bundesliga club has also officially denied that a pre-contract agreement has been signed.

But a source close to Hamburg confirmed to M.E.N. Sport the deal is already in place, and Boateng will join City on July 1 on a three-year contract worth £85,000 a week, with the Blues beating Bayern Munich to the player.

And although Boateng himself was staying quiet, team-mate Joris Mathijsen yesterday said of the move: "When a club like Manchester City tries to get a player, a club like Hamburg doesn't have a chance."

A Hamburg spokesman said: "Jorg Neubauer, Jerome Boateng's agent, has informed us the player wants to move. There is no deal agreed yet, however."

But their coach Bruno Labbadia is already resigned to losing his man. He said: "Jerome told me his reasons for his move and I have to accept that. He told me today, but his agent already told me some days before. Everything was correct, so I can just wish all the best for him in the future."

It is understood Neubauer met with City officials in March and they shook hands on a deal in early April, even though Bayern were also expressing a strong interest.

Strong

The two clubs have strong links after City signed Vincent Kompany from them two summers ago for around £6m, and went back for Nigel de Jong six months later for £14m.

Boateng is the younger brother of Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, and is the Berlin-born son of a Ghanaian father and a German mother.

The 21-year-old already has three full caps for Germany, and is rated by many as the best defender in the Bundesliga.

He was signed by Hamburg from his hometown club Hertha Berlin in August 2007, and can play centre back or in either full-back position.

The move is Roberto Mancini's first deal for next season – and he is expected to line up Napoli's Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik next.

Mancini tried to sign the £25m ace while he was at Inter Milan and is expected to face fierce competition from his former club for his signature.

Once I heard that this deal is in its latter stages I had a check up on Boateng. I don't watch German football, or much European football to be honest, I like the Champions League and will watch La Liga occasionally but that's only really to admire Messi and Xavi.

Anyway, the stats that made me smile most were age; 21 and height; 6 foot 3 and 1/2 inches. Excellent I thought. If he's as good as people on here are saying and he's physically suited to the Premiership and young this could be a great signing.

The special thing about Boateng is his versatility (CB, RB, DM, LB in this order), and the combination of physical strengths along with technical strenghts. He can be a very elegant player, and yet he has the body of a "monster".

They are certainly not rubbish. And they rate all games by the players, while fans naturally only watch some games from different players. The list does not only contain CBs, but all defenders, just click the link. Some here might have watched the Bayern game against Man U, the ratings for each player is there as well, and I broadly agree with the ratings given.

"kicker-Rangliste: Innenverteidiger
Weltklasse
keiner"

Innenverteidiger means Centreback! Their ratings are usually very harsh, last season they even gave players a 6 (= 1) when they dived, even if they played very well in that game. Those rankinga are very subjective, as subjective as the fans' views. As I said, that's why many people don't take them seriously. And tbh, I can't really disagree with them. They also have their favourites and players they don't really like, just like fans...Sometimes they show a certain trend, where most of the people can agree, but don't take them too seriously.

No, look at my link. I have already posted it. All defenders are ranked, not only central defenders, and Boateng is no.21 this season with an average rating of 3.39. You are confusing me with the other poster who posted what you quoted.

Regarding the ratings, I generally agree with the ratings they give after each game, sure there will always be some disagreements here and there, but overall, it is a good measurement I think.

Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffman has confirmed that Jerome Boateng is expected to leave the club at the end of the season amid continued links to Manchester City. Hamburg manager Bruno Labbadia said: "It is a pity to see him go. But I think it is better for us that he has told us at this point in time than at the end of the season.

Various sources reporting the same thing. I wonder if we are going to establish informal agreement with Arsenal and Hamburg to be feeder clubs.
We have bought Kompany and De Jong from Hamburg before hand and now it seems Boateng.
