Jerome Boateng has signed with MCFC, according to the largest and usually very well informed newspaper "Hamburger Abendblatt": <a class="postlink" href="http://www.abendblatt.de/sport/fussball/HSV/article1455352/Boateng-wechselt-zu-Manchester-City.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.abendblatt.de/sport/fussball ... -City.html</a>

12.5m EUR (so around 11m GBP).

He will probably start for Germany in the World Cup, so you will be able to see him there. I believe he is a complete player, made some dumb mistakes playing for us, but I would credit that to his youth. Congratulations, and he will have an easy start, since Vince and Nigel know how to make the transition from Hamburg to City ;)

Cheers for the info. If it is in this paper does it mean it is effectively a done deal?

Yes, very much so, they are not in the rumour-business at all. - I think it has always been between staying in Hamburg for another couple of years or going to the PL. Now that Hamburg has missed the CL for next year, I reckon he wants to play there with City.

As I said, very talented, young defender. Only negatives maybe lack of offensive ability and sometimes he seems a little slow to me (more a mental problem, I think). But physically he's amongst the top defenders, no doubt.

Once again thanks very much. Is the reported fee a fair reflection of his value?

I personally think that's a fair deal (it's a fixed fee in his contract btw): he is 21 years old, will (hopefully) play for Germany in the next 3-4 big tournaments as a starter and there is even much room for improvement. I think he is potentially better than Vince Kompany for example. So one could argue about a million or two, but I think it's in the range.

Its on the Sky Sports website now. They suggest that the £11 million fee is a release clause in his contract and City have activated it before Hamburg had the opportunity to get Boateng signed up to a new contract without a release clause. The report also states that 20% of the fee will go to Hertha Berlin.

Re: Jerome Boateng

I'm excited by this deal from what I have seen he looks a really good player with massive potential ...... hopefully to be a great signing!! :-)

Re: Jerome Boateng

Not seen much of the lad but he's a youngster who's already got caps for a top international team and at 6"3 he'll give us a bit of extra height. Looking at it on paper this is certainly the sort of player we should be bringing in. As people have said, let's make our own superstars and fingers crossed Boateng can come in and become a top, top player for us
