It’s one thing for the lunatic right wing nut job under attack to pretend Jess Phillips wrote “Asian” but it’s another thing for people outside of that bubble to pretend she said it as well.

According to that Twitter account, who obviously believe they know the inner thoughts of Phillips, they’ve said Phillips actually tweeted “you ain’t no aslan”, referring to the chronicles of narnia…or an alternative narrative is Phillips used a capital i. Assuming they are right why did Phillips call Birbalsingh Aslan?

Context of Phillips tweet is everything here if this is her defence. Let’s see what she has to say…

I couldn’t give a fuck how vile Birbalsingh is, it’s deflection from the matter at hand.

It actually says Aslan in the tweet that Birbalsingh embedded in the letter to Starmer. And it’s from 5 years ago and embedded in a section where she’s going on about Asians. Phillips doesn’t need to defend herself. Comparing someone to a fictional wise lion 5 years ago just can’t be construed as racist, and without that all the other accusations of racism look a bit silly.

Phillips doesn’t need to defend herself. Comparing someone to a fictional wise lion 5 years ago just can’t be construed as racist, and without that all the other accusations of racism look a bit silly.

It’s curious you don’t think she need explain or defend herself, if she is innocent surely she’d want to defend herself? Usually only the guilty stay quiet and she usually has a lot to say for herself - except today.

Why would Miss Snuffy embed a 5 year old tweet into her letter implying it said something it wasn’t if she wasn’t shit stirring.
I suspect Jess Phillips is not responding due to the absurdity of the letter, although if I were her I would simply retweet the rebuttal by Alex Andreou and leave it at that.

Issue is, even as this thread shows, people can take those things at face value (even when it’s been so stupidly misread and misused as it was in this instance) and the perception sticks.

Andrew Neil was sharing the letter and not questioning any of it either. He’s normally one of the better ones but going to be a lot of this up to the next election…

She’ll probably have to due to the coverage it’s got, but it’s worrying something that stupid has to be responded to at all, it should have just been denounced by everyone immediately and Birbalsingh ridiculed for putting it in her letter.
