Jesus Navas last game tonight

Agreed. The likelihood was that we weren't good enough to beat them, but that's not the point. If we'd lost by 3 or 4, having given it a bloody good go, I think most city fans wouldn't complain.

That was the worst thing about that semi final Real definitely could've been got at, like you say we never tried and that's what leaves a bad taste but at least we've won it now.

My mate cruelly labelled him Forrest Gump claiming he only ran and wasn't capable of owt else, regardless of whether people think that's true or not his effort was top notch and up there with anyone.

He was always highly rated from a very young age both Real and Barca wanted him for years, he was so homesick though he hated leaving his home city for club or country so couldn't actually move.

That's why it was such a massive surprise he joined us he overcame a phobia of being away from home, usually homesick during his whole stay while getting on with it like a model pro and the homesick part was real.

His brother signed for Bury if I remember rightly just to have more family close by him, he left under Pep but I don't think that was Pep's choice I think that was always going to happen as Sevilla is in his heart.

He's had high praise at RB since and rightly so he's looked good there for Sevilla and Spain, I've not seen a lot mention it but it was Pep who saw his qualities as a potential RB, he started playing him there in his final season and he mostly did well.

Good servant of the club who always gave 100% on the pitch that's all we ask for and it wouldn't go unappreciated right now, so for his effort alone to go with some crucial moments in a city shirt I wish him the very best in the future.

Remember him scoring against Spurs after about 10 seconds. I'd just put my pint down and walked onto the stand, looking at the goal just as it went in. Think we won 6-0.
He was on the main stand side of the pitch. I was in block 211.

He thumped it in a direct line towards where I was sat and it flew into the net. A very good player, wish he had stayed longer.

Best eyes i have ever seen except the last mr k

A female friend of mine bumped into him and his family in the Mersey Farm in Stretford (Tuesday night halfprice mains). She said it was like meeting Jesus Christ!

Navas is a great example of Pellegrinis tenure.

13/14 was great. Other than 17/18 probably the most fun season in recent memory.

14/15 and 15/16 were very uninspired tactically from MP and felt like a guy working his notice - getting up for the CL but not doing well int he league was kind of indicative of that. Navas was told to spam crosses into Aguero against packed boxes and as anyone could have predicted the result was a lot of blocked low crosses and easily cleared (by defenders with half a foot on Sergio) aerial balls.

I’d have loved to see a 25 year old Navas under Pep. He would have been perfect for the days of Sterling and Sane down the wings because he’s a great support runner on those fast breaks, has good enough technical skill to keep up with probably the most technical midfield based side ever (Spain 08-12), and was just a very hard working, tactically astute player - hence the successful swap to RB as his end product never really recovered from Pellegrinis mismanagement.

If he’d been younger I think he’d have won 10 trophies with us under Pep as a 12th man, someone to bring on when the game needs stretching but reliable enough to look after the ball.
Did suffer consistency issue similar to an average winger but as you mentioned was still a useful player to have around and after he left he continued to have a solid career. The only issue with not signing Navas earlier was his chronic bouts of Homesickness which he did eventually cure.
