It's the utter failure by Txiki in the last few years to not sort this glaring issue out.

There was always that doubt about whether or not we could effectively sign 4 fullbacks in one summer.

Our transfer policy is an utter joke.

Why are we settling with Navas as a reserve right-back. Such poor squad management.

To be fair, he works hard, costs nothing but wages and in an ideal world will sit on his arse on the bench for the season until we can get a good option for squad depth at RB.

the only young players with a chance at city are from the youth cup team downwards in my opinion. i can't see nacho, angelino, maffeo, gunn, tosin beign given a chance. garcia and roberts might get a few minutes here and there though. i could be completely wrong though :)
 
I assume Guardiola is well aware of Maffeo's progress at Girona as he has family involved at the club IIRC. Maybe he'll be coming back as well and we aren't signing a new RB. Maybe the article about the contract extension for Navas is garbage. Time will tell.

I agree.

I also defensive players stand no chance as experience is needed at the very highest level.

At least with young attacking players they can have a bad game yet not cost your team.

If we go in with Maffeo and Navas as our right backs next season we ain't winning anything at all again.

How is Maffeo doing, does anyone on here know? Does he stand a chance of being part of our squad next season. I'd love it to happen, but then I am an old football romantic.

I'm not saying we are or that we should be. There is no confirmation that Navas has been offered an extension or that Maffeo will or won't be joining up with our squad. People are getting upset by an unsubstantiated rumour. Personally wouldn't mind him as a back up to a top quality RB. It's unlikely that we'll sign 4 top full backs as other areas of the side need some attention as well.
 
Tbf, this was the right move. Might as well keep him for a back up RB rather than have Maffeo on the bench all year and stunt his development. A loan in la liga would be great for him
 
What next? Clichy and Kolarov to get new long term deals along with Yaya, + Caballero getting 1 year deals.

Hes been bang average since 13/14 season, yet want to keep him? Why Maffeo can't be 2nd choice?
 
Kolarov + Maffeo should be next years backups with 2 quality fullbacks coming in

Another year of watching Navas crossing might kill us all
 
Don't have a problem with this. I think he has started too many games as winger this season when it hasn't always been necessary but as a squad player he's fine and seems that he might have more value as a full back than he does as a winger. Good to bring on late on in games with his work rate and pace.
 
Maffeo could play league cup, fa cup some home games wouldn't stunt his development at all and would probably offer more than Navas could. Awful decison by the club
