Hopefully he does the right thing and rejects it and goes back to his boyhood club Sevilla.
 
I will be left incredibly angered if this isn't the last extension.

I dread to think what my blood pressure would be if I saw Clichy getting an extension.
 
maybe pep has said you can stay but you are forbidden to attempt any crossing? :-)

i like the lad, he seems a genuinely nice bloke in a football world full of wankers but hes got to be the most infuriating city player i have ever seen..

What's this based on?

He's played well whenever given a chance, and Pep said the only reason he wasn't playing was because he needed some more experience playing in front of big crowds in matches which meant something so he could handle pressure. So he goes on loan to Girona to get that experience playing in a promotion fight and does well.

He's ticked the only box Pep said he needed to tick, so I'd say thats enough basis.

can't offer my opinion on how maffeo has played whilst in girona as I haven't seen it. I imagine pep has. Can't offer my opinion on navas in training as I haven't seen it. I imagine pep has.
What I can say is having watching navas and maffeo in the games they've played this season; navas is shite, maffeo is raw. I'd bring back maffeo and send navas as far away as possible (not that any self-respecting club would pay navas a weekly wage). But i'm not paid 15 million quid a year to make these decisions and pep is, and there's probably a reason for that
 
How about we give youth a fucking chance? We will be buying a new starting RB so why not give Maffeo the back up spot? The kid who has played well every chance he's been given. Surely that is more sensible than keeping a 31 year old player who can't defend and struggles to cross the ball. Also sends a good message to the rest of the kids in the academy.

Extending old players contracts has got us into this fucking mess to start with.

"We can't know, it's up to Pep" - A great attempt to shut down discussion, but you don't need to know how he's played. Pep already said his level of play was good enough, he just needed experience in high pressure situations with proper crowds, and he's done that.

That may be the case but navas as a back up right back playing 7 or 8 games next season is not the end of the world. Surely now the important thing is getting a top class right back who is going to play 30+ games.

We need new: GK, LB, CB, RB, DM, AM and maybe CF. On top of that, we need squad depth and cover for those positions and more.

If the club can save money and pay Navas to sit as a last resort on the bench for a year, that's not as bad an idea as many here are suggesting.
 
Season's not even over yet,Hiked ticket prices and now this..Day can't get worse.
Completely braindead player whose last decent game was back in 2013.
What exactly does he offer us? Oh, 'pace' and he 'works hard'..This isn't athletics ffs.

Well I guess if nothing else it gives the same posters who love a fucking whinge something else to get upset about.
Two new full backs on either side with Navas and Kolorov backing up isn't the end of the world.
 
I'd rather Maffeo...Actually, i'd rather Maffeo didn't go out on loan and play as 2nd RB instead of wasting another season not knowing if our youth can handle the level.

Valid points. Coupled with the fact we'll get peanuts for anyone we sell on so its another huge net spend window coming. There is some sense in keeping Navas for one more season and if its true he'll be providing cover at RB, its a bonus that he can cover right wing too and he has a good attitude and is rarely injured.

not trying to shut down discussion, just make it more sensible. If one of the best managers in the game makes a decision based on insight I dont have access to and me, manygoose, disagrees with him maybe i take a step back and think
 
Great shout by the manager if true we can't go out and buy 2* rb and 2* lb and say your first choice ur back up the back up would never sign!!!! 6 new players this summer.
