Jesus Navas

Surely this is a joke?
Navas is terrible, can't cross, never scores and offers nothing.
Disgraceful if true.

He can cross a ball and has put in some very decent crosses in recent games; his problem generally is that opponents work very hard to cut his crosses out and his team mates often do not present enough of a target.

He also offers plenty at right back; where he has made good progress in a new role. If he stays, he'll make a decent back-up and will have the benefit of a year of playing for Pep under his belt. Much as it would be nice to have a huge overhaul, it's not practicable and keeping Navas for another year would make plenty of sense.

Probably makes sense. Kolarov will stay a year to cover CB and LB, Navas can also cover two positions. Ideally, you'd want a decent youngster as backup, but it looks like Denayer has no future at the club for some reason, and Maffeo has been playing in the Spanish second tier, which suggests he isn't ready for the PL yet. If you're going to keep certain players as backup, best to pick the ones that can play multiple positions. Let's be honest, we were never going to buy two LBs and two RBs.

I called this after the Arsenal game. The lad looks good at RB and is a great guy, so if he stays as a back up it's a good move.

Not for me, he's far too weak going forward and he limits the space of Sterling on the right hand side.
if you think Navas is weak going forward from right back, then you will be gutted if we buy a normal right back. Zabaleta was an outstanding attacking right back but even at his best he was not as good as Navas going forward. The problem with Navas is that he doesn't have the defensive game that Zabaleta, and Sagna have

Zabaleta was streets ahead of Navas and his intelligence and timing of his runs made all the difference. Walker for example is a massive upgrade on Navas.

Sensible post here

Overall yes, but I don't think you'll find many right backs with a better attacking game than Navas.

Pep's deluded
As a right winger maybe, but he has played well at full back

Whether he takes up the offer we will have to see because it sounds like just 12 months and he was very close to joining Sevilla.

I really don't understand those blues who haven't rated his performance at right back. Players who can play right back, and cover right wing are very valuable to the club.

Personally I'd prefer Maffeo was given a chance as backup right back but if Pep doesn't think he's ready then Navas isn't a bad option. He never lets us down I suppose but I'm very underwhelmed.

Please remind us all of his motm performances, goals and assists the last couple of seasons.
22 assists in the league in his first three seasons, so pretty solid numbers. None this year, but his attempts ended up as own goals against Sunderland, Chelsea and Hull, so overall quite a good return.

Not too sure whether this will satisfy you though. :)

Falls into the Fernando bracket......a reason not to blood youth from the bench as we can't have experienced first team/squad players on big wages doing fuck all.

I can understand the Yaya offer if true, for certain games he could still do a job but with our world class/worldwide scouting network aided by a top Spanish negotiator and top draw inspirational manager who players will allegedly walk over glass just to be in the same room as him let alone play and run through walls, the best we can come up with is an extension for Navas.........

Navas is W___
Clue- Rhymes with Thomas the Tank
Can't cross or shoot, can't tackle and disappears from defence. Joke of a decision, for 3 years we haven't been able to defend properly so now we're using a right winger at right back.
I suppose Pep is recommending we sell Vinnie, Sergio, and Silva as well then.
