Jim Davidson

Translation: He came to tell racist jokes to a room full of squaddies in Germany in the 80s. We thought it was brilliant and funny because we are as racist as he is. It’s a shame Paki jokes aren’t tolerated these days.
Prick, he came out to entertain without pay to the troops. So all serving soldiers are racist eh, you will fit right in here, next we are all murderers to fit the narrative.

He was alright in his heyday , but in truth nowhere near as funny as someone like Peter Kay is now.

Always amused me how he scored Debbie Corrigan, got her on the generation game, and then found out about her past and dumped her. Can't have been many escorts, hc models who've co-hosted prime time BBC shows.

You said about his act, it “wouldn’t be tolerated these days”.

We both know why it wouldn’t be tolerated these days: because it was racist.

You seem to think that the fact he didn’t get paid for performing racist jokes to a group of like-minded (ie racist) people is some badge of honour, when it was merely a taste of things to come for Davidson’s current career. He rarely gets paid to spout his racist shite these days either.

It's not just that though, the whole way comedy is done nowadays is different, and certain old school comedians didn't move on. Mainly back in the 70s, jokes were told and retold by different comedians (to the point where they actually have blackboards in comedy clubs crossing out the jokes as they're told so the next act doesn't repeat it). Nowadays, there's far more expectation for comedians to write their own stuff and as a result, they have more control over it (i.e. you can't steal people's jokes any more). So people who became successful purely because they had good delivery fell by the wayside when they weren't only expected to perform all original material, but they weren't even allowed to repeat jokes from one tour to the next. Henning Wehn does a good bit about how musicians have the easier career because they can write a few big hits and just play them for the rest of their life, whereas he has to throw all of his jokes away every year and write a brand new show.

And you seem to think you can throw out insults and slurs at someone who, with hundreds of mates, had the temerity to laugh at a comedian 30 years ago. Moralising, pseudo, preachy tossers abound at the moment, inflicting an uninterested audience with their ideas about how society should be framed. People like Davidson, Manning and their ilk earned fortunes and played to packed houses, and were regulars on TV. Whether you like it or not, millions were laughing at them at home, so according to your trumpeted revisionism. all these folk are fucking racists.
The new thought police will never change the facts.
