João Palhinha

If the club are convinced Andre has something special then they can look to bring him in but with question marks over a number of our current squad, particularly in the middle of the park, Palhinha is the man we should look to bring in. He knows the league and would instantly perform. I don't think we have time to ease another midfielder in this season. Andre could be an investment loaned out somewhere to come back in the future, but it's hard to benchmark his level at the moment. Palhinha has shown his ability both domestically and for Portugal and is entering his peak years now. It's a critical role and the squad is instantly better if Palhinha comes in.

This makes a lot of sense to me. The summer signings, Kova aside, were ones to develop. We have youngsters bedding in and so I would be more comfortable going for the more proven option in JP and hoping he would hit the ground running.

Erm I'm thinking about Kova and Nunes - it's not a guarantee he'd immediately get Peps demands to be fair.

As much as I want Palinha.. I can see us getting Andre over the winter break with the promise that if he makes an impression on Pep, he can stay at City or go on loan in the summer.

Jesus made the cut.
Kayky didn't.
And although I love Perrone and think he'll come good once he bulks up.. he obviously didn't make the cut this summer.
 
If we do go for him and get him, it will be him and Rodri together in the big games.

I think Kovacic has been a solid acquisition. He's been injured but prior to that we were winning games comfortably with him alongside Rodri.

Nunes for me was only bought due to Paqueta's gambling investigation. He's a player we'd liked at Sporting but I still think he's a jack of all trades and a master of none. He'll keep the ball make excellent runs with it but then his final ball will be lacking. If he can improve then he'll be a good signing but it was a puzzling one. Palhinha would come in to do the job he does right now in my opinion so I think he'd be fine.
 
Sky saying we’re looking for a young homegrown replacement for Philips. Any suggestions?
