Jo Brand

Jo is perfectly entitled to joke about whatever subject she chooses although perhaps leaving borderline comments like this one to one of her own shows where paying customers would not find it surprising might have been a better idea.
The BBC on the other hand should have decided to either edit the comment out which they would be perfectly to do,or preferably carry a pre- programme comment that some listeners may find some comments offensive.

This is more about the fact about where it was said rather than what was said, for me.

If she’d said this on stage at one of her stand ups, nobody would blink twice. It wouldn’t have even made the news.

But the rules of comedy seem to just blur a bit once comedians step off the stage. You can say a little less risky things on those comedy panel shows. And then once you leave there the rules seem to get stricter.

But should they?

She’s a comedian (not a very funny one by any stretch) as a profession. Should it matter where a comedian says certain things? Should they really more censored on a BBC Radio 4 show than on stage at their stand ups?

This is spot on.

Excellently put.

This is true of all topics when it comes to both extremes, left and right. Both far left and far right are hypocrites and do not really follow what they preach to the point of confusion.

It seems her wishes have come true as a man had a corrosive substance thrown in his face in Oxford this morning.
