Jo Swinson

I thought that the people were sovereign and mps were elected representatives who can be removed if they don't do the job that their constituents have tasked them with.
I must have missed something somewhere.

The people are only sovereign at a General election, after the election Parliament is where sovereignty resides.

Parliament "lend" sovereignty to the people for one day and one day only.

It's an interesting argument this and its seemingly dependant on who is in power and opposition as to what answer you get.

The SNP for instance in Westminster constantly tell us that the sovereign power rests with the people.

Up here in Scotland where they are in charge you don't here that line so much from them.

The SNP muddy the issue because they want a referendum and independence which in effect I suppose would mean handing sovereignty to themselves and taking it away from Westminster. So in that case they are both right and wrong. If they achieved independence and settled for a system like the one we currently have then sovereignty would then revert to the Scottish Parliament but like the UK that sovereignty would be handed to the Scottish people at a General election.

I think.

Isn’t it the same as for the U.K. though. The people of Scotland would only have sovereignty on the day of an election for the Scottish Parliament or Westminster, or on the day of a referendum. So when the SNP talk about sovereignty lies with the people of Scotland, that can only be when a referendum is granted, on the day of that referendum. I would have thought that if Westminster refused a second Indy ref then the matter would play out in the high courts of both Scotland and England.

As I see it, that's right mate where sovereignty is concerned. I don't know how it would play out in courts though.

Has she rocked up in central London yet and promised a Lib Dem Gov and her as PM will not only stop brexit but ban the sale of meat and cars and make it law that everyone has to eat plants and cycle everywhere?

Opportunist best sums her up.

The opposition parties agree to pursue forming a government with Corbyn as PM for 2 weeks with the objective of seeking an extension then calling a GE. The people then have the choice of going full hard Brexit or a deal with peoples referendum to ratify or reject. Apart from one...

Swinson is enabling Boris and his shower of cunts rather than act in the nations interest.

The Lib Dems stand for nothing.

Their behaviour in the coalition exposed them as nothing more than Tories and Swinson's voting record during that time bears this out.

The lib dems number of MPs are now 25% tories and led by a closet tory

It is no surprise, the Lib Dems have far more in common with the Tories than they do any other party.

Took this from WIKI as its pretty accurate

"Liberal conservatism is a political ideology that combines elements of conservatism and economic liberalism. Liberal conservatives believe in the free market and laissez-faire economic policies combined with traditional conservative values, such as the belief in natural inequality, the importance of religion, and the value of traditional morality."

As the Lib Dems are now seemingly over run by the Orange Book faction, they have moved away from traditional liberal values which were originally more leftist which of course makes them the natural home for those on the left of the Tory party simply because the Tory party has become so right wing dominated.

I have always been of the opinion that the Liberals are not the centrists that people make them out to be. A true centrist would be comfortable taking the extreme's of both the left and right in forming an ideological base, the current Lib Dems in their refusal to work with Corbyn show they are not even prepared to work with the centre left but are comfortable working with centre right.
