He didn't just suddenly become a bad defender, we knew what we were buying and were happy to roll with the average defending because of what he offered going forward, he was a huge part of some of our attacking play for a long time.

Hardly played in his 1st season and was in and out of the team for periods thereafter. An absolute show pony of a player who cost us points big time with laziness at the back…see the 2-3 home loss to Spurs when he decided not to bother tracking back late on. Could never accept responsibility for his mistakes (Fulham H sending off) & trouble behind the scenes. Not a good combo. Pep clearly had had enough of the guy.

Nearly 100 apps in 3 seasons, he was hardly a bench player.
