Honestly think we are shafting them on this one. Cancelo is the kind of explosive threat Pep has been trying to get in the full back position since he arrived with little success. Walker is amazing but doesn't have the final ball, Mendy does but his job as social media manager takes up most of his time and Zinny / Danilo land somewhere in between (I do have high hopes for Angelino once he beds in though).

Giving Pep something he has been after for 3 years now for 27 million quid is an absolute bargain and hopefully Danilo will finally get the starting spot, and the respect, he deserves.

I'll be happy if we get him but it won't be for £27M because if Danilo is included then it's effectively £50M+
If it were only £27M then fingers would be lost in the exchange!

I'm perplexed how Danilo hasn't increased his value in his two years here.

As good as we can be negotiating for buying a player, we still suck at moving them on.

He's hardly played. when you say we suck, if teams don't offer more we can't sell for more. We aren't turning down big offers and selling cheap.

Its not for 27m though. it's for 55m.

Which i agree, is still good for the right player. but they are getting as good a deal as us, if the figures reported are right.

Well... he never plays even though he was considered as being able to come in and cover LB - a position we've struggled to fill (until Zinch rounded into form) for 2 years.
Clearly behind the scenes there's a reason he's been pushed so forcibly to the door.

Shopping in January won't be cheaper than it is now and should anyone emerge who is deemed good enough for us then their price will instantly sky rocket.

If City have watched Maguire enough to deem that he has the qualities to succeed here then I don't have a massive problem with the price. It's top end but if they genuinely think he's good enough then so be it. Would rather they pay over the odds for someone who will make it here than pay £40m for someone who plays as little as Danilo and then get's shipped out at a loss 2 years later having never made an impact.

Yeah but I don't mind them paying £80m for a Van Dijk or a Laporte. Just not a bloody Maguire.

Maguire is probably a similar kind of risk as VVD was to be honest. He was stepping up from Southampton but Liverpool felt he was up to the job and it paid off. Maguire is liked because he has attributes that suit us that aren't always easy to come across in CB. I'm in two minds about whether I can see him making the step up but I think it'll be interesting to see how he gets on wherever he ends up. I feel like we need a new CB but i'm stumped for ideas on who we could actually go for.

Danilo is no slouch and he has still time to make an impact, the difficulty is that he is still behind Walker. When you have manager like Pep you need to keep evolving adjusting to the demands of the premiership and champions league throw at you. Cancelo could take us to another level where as you are quite right in saying Maguire isn't up to scratch with his price tag being irrelevant in all this.

Excuse my ignorance here, for those that know, but is this lad coming here to be a regular starter before Walker ? I'd have thought at the price tag,he won't be sitting on bench too much.

Before anyone says it's a squad game,I know,i'm just curious as to how good he is and would he be a starter for sure at RB ?

How is it perplexing? He barely plays, he picked up an injury or two, and he's on high wages.
59 appearances over two season as a backup.

Champions League winner.

Two time Premier League winner since his last transfer.

In his prime years at 28.

No way shape or form should he go for less than the £27m we paid for him.

Danny Ings went for £20m for fuck sake if you want to talk about an actual crock that never plays.

I expect most games where we're expected to win, yes. He's like an extra winger. Tougher games against better teams, Walker.
