Jobseekers Allowance

Unless things have changed Jobseekers allowance is split into two sections ..... contribution based and income based.

I think contribution based jobseekers is claimed based on the amount of stamps that you've paid over certain years ...... this lasts for a set time , and it doesn't matter how much you've got in bank , or it didn't when i claimed it.

Then when your contributions have elapsed you could be forced to apply for income based jobseekers , which as the name suggests , is based on the total income coming into your house AND the amount of money that you have in the bank ......... i was blown out of this because at the time i had just over 8k in the bank at the time of applying AND my wife worked ONE hour too many per week in her part time job ..... she was working 25 hours a week.

So then i wasn't eligible to claim any section of JSA ...... only able to sign on for a social security stamp.

As for housing and council tax benefit you should be able to get that if your claiming JSA.

Mckensie - do you know if grants or funding is available whilst on JSA to take courses which could lead to full time employment?

A lot of these misconceptions come from DWP/JCP PA's then. I was an administrator for the local ND25+ provider in Scotland and that is the info we were told directly.

Some people DO get knocked back because of savings over 8K, but some also get disallowed for a variety of other reasons from Day 1. Also people over a certain age CAN get JSA with savings over 8K,as there are different levels, and it has been the same for years.

The fact that you were working for a Provider (and I work closely, and very well, with Providers in my current role) is part of my point. The DWP staff should encourage each individual customer to enquire direct as the system is complex.

What you were told wasn't necessarily wrong for certain customers on JSA (Income Based) but someone who has paid NI conts and qualifies for JSA (conts based) could have a million in the bank and still qualify.

I would guess that as a ND25+ provider then your orgnisation dealt mainly with those on JSA (IB) as they would be long term unemployed in the main if they were on such a programme, but still if a customer had a partner working full time they still wouldn't get anything.

They should have told you that each customer needs to check out the rules for their own particular situation.

I understand what you are saying, each individual claim has to be looked at in it's own right. I was just basic info, as you are quite right in saying speaking to a JCP advisor is the correct thing to do. On a slightly different note, Rob has said he has medical conditions affecting his job search / work roles, would he not be better looking at Incap?

mackenzie,

can you help with this then? It was me who posted originally, it is work related...

Someone owes me money and had offered to pay me £5 a month...yes a month...

She has told me she is on jobseekers, fair enough. However, sent the boys round, she is in a council house in a reasonable area, car on the drive, nice garden, dogs x 3 in the passage barking their heads of.

My point is she will be probably is on housing benefits as well as job seekers. Runs a car, can afford to have dogs and she can only afford to pay me 5 fucking pounds a month. I am trying to gauge how much disposbale income she may have..

Try the Career Development Loan. Google it and you will find the website. Has been around for donkeys years but is advertised little.

Hi again tb.

Possibly, but it is not something I can really give advice on. Incap is, and should be imo, for those severely restricted/incapacitated by their illness.

However, he could get help from the DEA as JSA customers have access to that Specialist Advisor if they have underlying health conditions.

Sorry, but unable to help. Not something within the DWP remit I'm afraid. Try the Small Claims Court if she owes you money and give them the info you have. It is more of a Civil case by the sound of things.

is it a policy for the DWP to employ people who interview you every fortnight to treat you like the scum of the earth for not having a job even when you're actively searching for work every day and trying to get a fookin job

/\ And when you see your advisor they say "Oh I saw such and such a job thatd suit you", Im thinking why the hell didnt they ring me up to let me know, instead of telling me a week later when the job is now taken.
Like I said before, they do nothing to help you get into work and everything to stick you on a unpaid compulsory government course.
