Joe Cole and the press fascination

Seems to be as much to do with Hodgson as anything else. The press seem to love him at the minute, now that they have gone off Capello.

^ This. I was listening to 5 live yesterday and they were having utter top wanks over it. I've heard of 'coming in your ears' radio, but this broadcast was just disgusting...

Now. I like Woy Hodgson a lot, he seems a gent, but this is not a 'genius' signing, and he is not to be heralded as the new Clough or Shankly for it. I dont know anything about Liverpool FC but surely they aren't too badly off for attacking midfielders? Cole will be on big time wages and (oh and it remains to be seen whether the poor flower can cope in these wild and frozen Northern provinces). I read today that they don't have a recognised (or at least experienced) left back on the books now, so unless Woy has a man lined up, shouldn't he be careful how he goes with his dosh?

They're after Wayne if we get Kolorov.

i was thinking this while i was putting the papers out in work this morning when we signed silva, a much better player it got burried like 5 pages in with a short article whereas aparently joe cole is some sort of footballing god (one who couldn't get a start ahread of hesky that is)

back page of the sun made me giggle 'joe cole: "ive joined the biggest club in England"' eh? have you? but i thought you just joined liverpool didn't you? i must have been mistaken

Thing is he is english, he is going to a club with history, Gerrard will stay and probably Torres so from scousers point of view they are better prepared for this season than last, throw in the mix that Sky want their sky 4 back, no doubt radio plebs want it too and it all adds up to Liverpool under new management will challenge for the title again, upstarts such as spuds they don't mind because of arry, Villa are fucked and we are just upstarts that need putting in our place. It is going to be one hell of a season. But IMO make no mistake if we and spuds gatecrash the party another team misses out and I am hoping it will be the scum, it might just prove to be the downfall of Baconface.

Torres must be delighted to see that Liverpool have signed a Chelsea and England reserve player. The club is really getting forward.

5 Live love Liverpool, mainly 'cos they have so many dipper fans amongst their numbers, whether as presenters or editorial staff. Not scousers mind you, but people who chose to support them during their glory years and now aged 35 to 45. I was surprised they didn't declare a day on national mourning when Rafa went.

Honest to God here, when I opened the paper the other day and saw photos of Cole having his medical I thought I was in a time zone. It was like the kind of posed stilted photos that you used to get back in the 70's.

Unless it was a mock up and I was being Clarkied (apologies to colinbellsboots in advance), but I didn't hang around to find out and just quickly turned the page. It left me disorientated all day. lol!

I feel Hodgson will play him, and have confidence him. He will not be shuttled out to the wing, he will finally be allowed to become the player he was tipped to be. Right player for the right club with the right manager. {He even believed himself he was a winger?)

28 yoa, with the old guard for England finally finished, he and Johnson could be revelation in the white over the next two years.

Centre stage awaits, and hope he bloody well succeeds. If he fails, it will be down to him.

The coverage is all about the fact that Cole is English and can't be blamed for the World Cup debacle. Also, Terry said he was the only player who could change the game. Added to the fact that Woy is the new messiah and is loved by the tabloids. Probably only Ferguson and Rednapp get an easier ride from the press.

I think he's a good signing for Liverpool. He's still only 28, and has a lot to prove. He'll have a good season.

... seems funny to me that Chelski and The Dippers swop one player each (Benayoun and Joe Mr Wonderful Cole) and both teams are improved ... that literally does not add up ... or even make sense.

I was thinking this earlier... Dippers will miss benayoun more than chelsea will miss cole I think
