Joe Corrigan MBE

Just checked their site a couple of minutes ago, never happened! Very poor from these sour twats.

Well done Mr Corrigan, my brother's first City hero.

Jim on that post about scapegoats the other day I think you mentioned Joe as getting some in the past. I was pretty young as a City supporter back then but don’t recall anything like that. What was it all about?

I was only a nipper back then but, from memory, he wasn't a confident keeper, particularly when coming for crosses. It got to the stage where Johnny Hart signed Keith Macrae from Motherwell, and took Joe out of the side.

My Nan got big Joe's autograph for me when I was a kid, he was a great keeper.

Joe was handing out the trophies at an awards do at the City social club for a Women's pub darts league.

That's typical isn't it ? No mention of City. Would have been different if Joe had played for any of the red tops. Anyway, well done Big Joe. You won more trophies in your career than Sir Waistcoat did.

Like others on here Big Joe was my first City hero. I have certain memories that will never fade. He was a great keeper and should have had loads more England caps than the nine he got. My biggest shock with Joe was in January 1979, Gay Meadow, me as a 12 year old kid stood behind the goal as City took a battering from the mighty Shrewsbury, hearing my hero swear as some bloke shouted something toward Joe. I vividly remembering him turning round next to the goal line wearing his tracksuit bottoms on the rock hard icy pitch and Joe shouting, 'Don't fucking tell me, tell them'......wow I was so shocked, I never knew my hero could swear.

Big Joe was very resepcted. Following City away as a young kid, I saw that he always got a great reception from fans in the home end, apart from maybe at Leeds and the Rags and I don't think he gave a fuck about that, but I am sure he must have felt good with the receptions he got from other fans who recognised him as a great keeper, yes, ever Scousers!

Sloppy journalism as ever by the BBC. Just for balance they’re always quick to point out that the new Georgian president once played for City.
In any event congrats to Big Joe - one of my heroes growing up
