I still think he needs to improve massively, people who say he's back to his best are wrong and even at his best he still needs to improve a few things.
But he secured us the points today. He made one fantastic save and three others from shots that were going in.
Cheers Joe!
Improve massively? How?
When he runs to the edge of the box there are players waving their arms in the air and he very rarely if ever releases it quickly. That's one thing I really liked about Pantillimon and he is superior to Joe with it. With our fast paced attacking play it is essential that we have a quick release of the ball from the 'keeper and Joe holds on too long too often (did it today and Boxing Day).
His decision making can be very indecisive, causing us problems. Even the other day he should have walked out and claimed that ball over the top where Lescott was backtracking and Liverpool nearly scored (was actually a save by Joe in the end but the whole situation could have been avoided had he just collected the ball over the top.
Conversely, he sometimes comes charging out of his box and not dealing with it a situation. Goals have been scored from instances such as Blackburn at home a few years ago, playing for England with the Ibrahimovic overhead kick, for the Chelsea goal this season and even recently when playing g for England when he took out sampling and didn't deal with the ball.
His distribution can be inconsistent. Especially kicks out of hand. Against Plzen and today he kicked a fair few out over our players heads for an opposition throw-in.
He's always been a great shot stopper, and even when he was struggling with making big mistakes he was still making good saves.
But there's a long way to go for Joe in my opinion.
