Joey Barton’s autobiography

He’s not thick. He lacks judgement, self-awareness and emotional intelligence but he’s definitely not thick. Certainly based on my interaction. Agree with the self-centred, egotistical loon part though!
He is thick in my opinion. To keep banging the same drum regarding anything from third world famine to Donald trump politics, without actually researching it is thick. Think he’s a good bluffer who uses long words he really doesn’t digest to play the game. Bit like his football performances if you like.

She worked around professional footballers so shouldn’t have been impressed by that per se, and I actually don’t think it did her any favours, career wise, which I thought was unfair. Two single people in their early 20s in shagging each other, pissed-up at a wedding shocker. Had plenty of such experiences myself in my early 30s. She did nothing wrong.

What were the footballers names?

I agree he's not thick he's like millions of others who grew up in tough council estates and a shit comprehensive school system, as good as written off from birth.

Before loads quite similar upbringings and their success since I'm aware that has and does happen. I too grew up in Hulme and Benchill Wythenshawe and did okay, thankfully I had great parents and grounding. Lots didn't though and the odds are always stacked against you in such environments.

Barton is like many. Proud of his past but ashamed of it too, desperate to prove he's worthy of better but can't shake off still wanting to be seen as Joey from Huyton, up for a scrap, one of the lads, not selling out. He never had to improve his education as he had a talent for kicking a ball about. Probably being in that pampered well paid world of professional football meant he didn't really evolve mentally and emotionally, so when adversity came he reacted with what had served him well growing up, his fists.

A complex character I hope he eventually calms down ( No pun intended) and uses his free time going into schools and trying to help kids from similar backgrounds as himself.

I read it a while ago. From memory everything seemed to be someone else’s fault.
Used to like him when he broke through and seemed for a while as the only one apart from maybe dunne that actually cared about what was going on on the pitch.

Joey Barton is a bright, articulate man who has experienced more than his fair share of mistakes. The book, I heard l, was penned entirely by himself. It's not all glorious and positive but here's a man conflicted and trying to do better. I personally feel he has had his just desserts in leaving City for a mixed career afterwards. Football is full of characters, bullies and the bullied.

When at City, I enjoyed watching him play and he was gutsy. After leaving City, he slid faster than his hero Steven Gerrard. I'd rather a world with Joey Barton working towards success in management than some other ex-players and pundits. Good luck to him. His youthful actions were sometimes appalling, but he has to move on. So do we. James Tandy? Hope he moved on too.
