He got the popular vote but Distin was a class above.

Perhaps.

But to state that it was only due to Barton and Distin is a fallacy. Richard Dunne was one of the few shining lights - along with Barton and Distin - during those dark days.
 
So when Joey's glittering career comes to an end, which is very close now, what will he be remembered for? The answer everyone will give sums him up. A bang average midfield player journeyman, good on his day but that applies to most players. He will be remembered more for his spats, his sending off's and being more trouble than he is worth.....oh and thinking he is some sort of working class heroic philosopher.

I've always thought of him (affectionately) as a kind of scouse, footballing Banksy tbh.
