Joey Barton

I think the point regarding pundits is that Sky et al ONLY employ male pundits that have played at the highest level.
Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton commentate on T20 cricket, despite never playing it at the highest level.

It’s a nonsense to suggest that you can’t be a good pundit without playing to the level you’re analysing.

That’s a ridiculous analogy.

The women pundits have played the game at the highest level that they can.
Aye but women’s football isn’t even Sunday league levels, and that is sadly fact, plenty of occasions where top level women’s teams have lost to academy boys, Sunday league sides etc

Didn't the USA world cup winning team get turned over by a team of U15 boys?
15 year old boys will already be faster and stronger than adult women, so the comparison is always pointless.

The skill level of women's football is improving, and there's no reason why it shouldn't get close to the men's game (it's unlikely to match it for a long time, simply because of the disparity in playing numbers and lack of coaching/teams at youth levels), but in terms of entertainment it's arguable it could surpass men's football.

Plenty of ex-players have argued that football is an athletic contest more than a footballing one these days. Why doesn't Jack Grealish entertain us with glorious dribbling that he's surely capable of? Because three six foot plus athletes can be within a couple of feet of his him within seconds of him receiving the ball. Unless you're Messi, no amount of skill can compensate for that.

Women's football will benefit from the fact that pitches were designed for the athletic ability of men over 100 years ago, and we may see a better balance between skill and athleticism as the Women's game improves.

lol.

Pretty sure Jill Scott, Lauren Hemp, Lauren James et al would run absolute rings round Barry the fucking plumber from The Ducks Breath.

Joey Barton has moved the goalposts from what he originally stated.

His interview with Piers Morgan from what I've watched I knew where he was coming from to be honest. Even though he's a ****, He's also entitled to have an opinion.

Their is nunerous terrible commentators and pundits men and women throughout various broadcasters. My opinion is that their is 90% of them are completely shocking with no insight to football, Not breaking down games ect Instead football has become like a soap wanting constant drama.

I also think their are some incredibly piss poor women and men commentators and pundits who are thick as fuck.

There’s also the problem of there being so much football on TV that there won’t be much new to say in most games.

People get bored of people saying the same things or if they don’t sound energised enough.

Also peoples’ tolerance to hearing negative things about their own football club is almost at 0% now.

It’s not a gender thing, it’s recruiting the wrong pundits thing. Look at toe muncher Scholes. Top bracket player that sounds more depressed than Kevin the teenager.

Oh ffs you can do better than that. Cricket is cricket. If football had a version that only lasted 20 minutes each side, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry would still be able to walk you through what’s happening.

As for your second paragraph, I don’t disagree and never have done, so why do the broadcasters only employ men that have played at the highest level?

Ok, female athletes shouldn’t analyse male athletics as they are slower and less powerful.

The comparison works in every sport. The sport is the same, the pace is different, but the effort isn’t.

I’m not anti female pundits, I’m anti “only allowing men that have played for Arsenal, United, Liverpool, Chelsea et al” to be employed.

As for Barton, he’s gone full Le Tissier now:

Broadcast companies are commercial ventures and they've realised that audiences want and prefer a range of voices and styles rather than more of the same. It's not box ticking, it's about representing their audiences better and giving people what they want.
No it isn’t, it’s 100% box ticking, I couldnt care any less who does what and why but all forms of media have been ticking boxes for years and will continue to do so ad infinitum, so nobody gets upset :-( ::::::

Which was my point really. The recruitment process hasn’t been the best. Gender doesn’t matter, just insight, charisma and knowledge etc.

Barton has obviously been given the grifter’s guide to antagonising.

Kevin Keegan recently said pretty much the same as Barton, albeit in a slightly more gentle, tactful manner and not on a huge social media platform for millions to see. I agree with Keegan.

If I want to listen to punditry, which I generally avoid, I want to hear it from accomplished ex players who I know and respect for their input.
Currently watching the Palace Dipper game and there's a woman on co comms, might as well be Debbie from next door, I don't respect her input.
How many ex pros are out there thinking I would have liked a career in TV but were denied because they didn't tick a box.

Keegan speaking with tact?

‘There’s a lot of soul searching to be done at this club’

Translated to ‘we need to spend more money’. Quality Special K.

Do they though? Who wants Eni Aluko? Who wants Alex Scott? Who wants Carragher?
