John Gwynne RIP (p 11)

Lovely interview. Makes a refreshing change to listen to someone string a sentence together without recourse to 'blud', 'fam', and 'you know'.
More, please.

was at school with John, if ever a bloke reached his personal dream, it was him. City to his core, football and cricket mad, able to hold his own against the rag hordes, without dropping to their level, mainly by having an encyclopaedic memory for events and statements, For those that grew up with him, none would be surprised at his success in his chosen career. Amazing how his voice is exactly the same....face, not so much :)

John was my form tutor back in the day at Spurley Hey and a nicer bloke you'd be hard pushed to meet. His knowledge of the game and passion for it wouldn't be beaten by many. Always great to hear his voice. Top top bloke!!

I remember him on Piccadilly sport when I was 6 or 7, very distinctive voice.
Never knew he was a city fan.
Yes, me too. I think he commentated on Bolton. We had Brian Clarke, who sometimes got so excitable at us scoring a goal, that he actually didn't tell us that we had.

I went to Wright Robby and had him as a teacher in the first year

Ian Cheeseman interviewed John Gwynn on his blog at West Ham the other, wasn’t it Oldham he used to commentate on or was it all local clubs.

Commentated for GMR on Lancashire County Cricket game. Suddenly vanished from the scene and never replaced with anyone half as good. Does that remind you of anyone it's also happened to recently???
