You keep saying this,we will be negotiating behind the scenes, they are not the easiest club to deal with
Are Everton difficult to deal with? We had a bit of a hassle with Lescott, but I don't remember other moves from Everton elsewhere being too much of a problem. Rodwell wasn't too difficult. Not that I want Stones to be another Rodwell.

Who would of said no to £12M for Rodwell?

They saw us coming with jack, madness to buy him with his injuries. It might just be my perception they are difficult but i'm sure they are trying to hang onto john as they did last year

OMG it's happening!

Hi Karen,...Everton are no more difficult than a team like Juve and if those rumours are correct....we've placed 2 bids and in face to face talks with his agent over the last 48hours....It's clear to me, if we wanted this done by now, we could have.....just opinion tho....

It's brinksmanship fella.

If we go in with a bid of £70m then they would think they could get £80.
It's about testing the waters and if you can get the player to want to come then that's better for negotiations.
Sometimes you have to wait before putting the next bid in.
It's like buying a second hand car. Walk away and they could be stuck with something they no longer want.

Hi mate....like pretty much every other deal we've done or tried to do this summer, official bids/rejected bids always seem to leak somehow...We've rumoured to have agreed terms and also rumoured to be ready to make a "imminent" bid....and it seems to have been that way for a while.....When you look at the way Txiki does his business (like with Sterling) he tries to "time" his 1st, 2nd and in some cases 3rd bids, often waiting before that final bid goes in.....just like he's doing with Peres.....Just my opinion but for me it looks like its us playing the waiting game on that bid for Stones.....

Maybe Everton want to delay things so they can buy players without everyone knowing we have given them £50m?

Maybe Txiki is happy this one is in place, but has to focus on Sané or Bonucci right now because those aren't certain.

There's rumours of Bony being involved in a part swap deal, so that would make the whole thing much more complex.

Also I think Txiki would rather spend a fortnight negotiating behind the scenes and have 1 bid accepted than have to go back with a second and third.

We know Gurdiola really wants the players into preseason ASAP, so it's unlikely that we are delaying it for trivial reasons.

I don't think we have anything to worry about here.

I agree mate.....just feels like we havent even "tested the waters" on this one yet...I understand not everything gets leaked to the press but find it difficult to believe, if we had made a "large" 1st bid for Stones, someone, somewhere wouldnt have heard about it......with internet, social media etc I just dont think there is many "surprise" signings these days....

If we include Bony do we have to give them more cash?

Why would we be happy to wait ? We could have him back and in training, bedding in with his new teammates. It's more likely Everton are digging in their heels and trying to squeeze about 60m out of us. This is far from sewn up

You seem to have not read my comment. I never said we'd be happy to wait, I said we would want Stones in training ASAP, but might be forced to wait.

Another reason could be that we need to create some squad space. If Kolarov, Mangala, Zabba and some others were already out of the door. No doubt there would be more movement.

Also, surely Stones will be on a break for several weeks seeing as he went straight to the Euros ?

Even if we had already signed him, Everton may have requested we keep it quiet whilst he's away, so they can sort out their own business.
