Yes I agree that is a factor too that needs to be addressed somehow, clubs buying average players from all over Europe at half the price of the English players , nolito may be a half decent player that we got for £14m whereas an English equivalent say delli alli would probably cost £30m+ , crazy.

Delli Alli would go for much more than £30m IMO. Horrible character but very talented footballer, can imagine him going to the swamp at some point in the future?

Always club before country for me too, mostly because tournaments are only every two years, but I do get behind England and would love to see the team show the world we can be great and win a trophy at some point, nothing wrong with a bit of national pride, I do think the influx of foreign players into the premier league has affected top English players coming through at top level, and think there should be a rule that more English players should be in the squads.

That's the point mate. I am that bad. Lol. Thanks to my late Grandad's influence, I admit I am biased, to the enth degree, when it comes to supporting City, so could never bring myself to get behind Charlton, Stiles, Beckham, Robson, Scholes. et al. (Players that I absolutely detested, week in week out), Even in an England shirt.

I'm the same mate....really struggle to cheer for players like Rooney just because he wearing an England shirt....I'm a blue first, England fan second!;)

Very hard to judge. He's gone backwards... but it's hard to say why. Not living up to potential, or the influence of a piece of shit manager?
I wouldn't be happy if we spent big on him, but nor would I grumble if we got him relatively cheaply.

Really though, we should be aspiring to better than Barkley.

Quota systems never work all they do is lower the standard. The trouble is our youngsters are not hungry enough. Starts at schools that do not have losers.

Not read this thread for while, and as uneducated as I am this does strike me as a typical Guardiola singing, even if I haven't a clue what one is lol!

He's a ball playing centre back who has the biggest advantage I suppose from Peps point of view in that he knows how to use the ball. Needs to be a better defender though.

And we are in for bonnuci so?? It fits with what ric said about having 3/4 targets for each identified position. Guess Laporte was first call? As we are chasing bonnuci maybe this one is dead, or maybe my logic isn't too clever.

The wisdom on the thread seems to be that we could be in for them both, Stones and Bonucci. This is based on rumour, and many forumites wanting to see the back of Mangala.

Fwiw, I'd say the Stones rumour is more likely. It's debatable which is the best buy, due to age and ability/potential. I'd go for Bonucci, as the more proven player, though Stones is very good. If we're going for potential, I'd rather we developed our own.

This pales into insignificance if Pep wants Stones.

Also based on us being balls deep for Stones and Laporte at the same time.
