I understand why its difficult to negotiate during the euros but we had enough conversations with Stones and his agent before hand, to know what they looking for...why do we have to wait until after the Euro's have finished before we start making official bids? That part of the transaction is between the clubs..

That would be professional, sensible and efficient. Everton will want a right 'song and dance' to ensure that they get the maximum fee possible and to show their supporters they sold against their will. Expect Sterling Mark 2 from another set of dippers.

Im a big fan of stones but would we really want to spend over £40 million on a player who can't get in the squad over smalling
A good question but the answer may well be yes. The reason most likely is the players ability on the ball which fits neatly into the football philosophy and practice of our new manager. Smalling has had a fairly good season and is turning into a competent no nonsense defender which suits the framework of the England manager. It is no real surprise that Stones who did not enjoy a great season has fallen behind in the pecking order.

Since their takeover there is a strong belief at Goodison that they are able to hang onto their best players. It will not be easy to prise them away as they have been promised 'big signings' themselves. The reality is that the player will be the one who ultimately decides. I agree that this could drag on somewhat and mirror the Lescott deal causing some more ill feeling between the clubs.

He's decent enough but i remain to be convinced that he is worth breaking the bank for, especially when some of our young EDS defensive players are showing such promise.

thing is though their new investor wont splash that much every season? plus they have huge debts and if aiming for Europe then become open to FFP.

Promising big signings and getting are two different things entirely.

Hilarious that people think Everton now have huge financial power. I would be astonished if they have the capacity to spend more than 60 million in a season without selling first.

If a decent offer for any of their players comes in, they will sell.

Premier League FFP - which they voted for - will be their un-doing. They can't bring too many big names in because of the limitations on wage growth. To hang on to Stones they will need to match or get close to the kind of package we'd offer and similarly match a PSG package for Lukaku. If they do keep those two - there will be plenty more who want parity or at least an uplift in the present squad - so they'll see huge wage growth in the present squad just because they are deemed to have money! So they won't be bringing in a legion of superstars just yet because they can't increase their wage bill too much under the restrictive PL FFP rules. Serves em right.
