Why might he be the best centre back in the world? Apart from being good on the ball, I don't see much else.
And because he's english

Don't forget he's currently be coached by that clown Martinez, decent manager will have him right. Reminds me of Alan Hansen & he wasn't too shabby in his primeHas to stop thinking he's this great ball playing CB, and focus on his actual defending because at the moment he's shocking, his positional play is woeful.
I've always thought he was over hyped purely because of his technical ability and being comfortable with the ball. He's been Mangala like this season in his defensive positioning and decision making.
Stones & Denayer to replace Mangala & Demichelis would be very good business IMO.
Guardiola turned a raw 21 year old Pique into the best CB in the world. I reckon Pep could do a similar job with Stones, his ability, vision and calmness on the ball will certainly attract Pep's interest.
Not a popular opinion, no doubt, but for me he is the closest to a Busquets-type DM that England has ever gotten (from an overall skill set). That said, to be anywhere near the level of the spaniard (flamboyant diving aside) he would need to improve his decision making. Luckily that is one of the few things that can be drastically improved by proper coaching and mentoring.
For me he is being wasted as a centreback and is not worth the quoted fee in that position (or even as a DM yet).
he is a very good player, whats happening now though is that young players are being hyped up so much as soon as they make mistakes ( which they will) people are saying well he was never that good ....... he's clearly a very good young player, he's just making mistakes now. Imo he's miles better than mangala, younger swell.
