John Stones

All the hype has gone to his head i think, trying things he doesn't need to do. If he gets his head right and gets back to basics he's got all the tools to be a real Rolls Royce defender, maybe the best English defender since Bobby Moore. We should do all we can to sign him imo.

Has to stop thinking he's this great ball playing CB, and focus on his actual defending because at the moment he's shocking, his positional play is woeful.
Don't forget he's currently be coached by that clown Martinez, decent manager will have him right. Reminds me of Alan Hansen & he wasn't too shabby in his prime

he has so much potential so i can see why we are after him. Cameron Humphries is an interesting one though, could he be our version of john stones ?

Well looks like we're his next destination, which is unsurprising really.

I think he'd be superb for us. Pep will make him World Class.

I can see a fee of around £40M, which will be reported as £50M+ obviously.

I don't often agree with Paul Merson but he's spot on here

I just don't see it and if we pay 50M for him, Everton will be laughing.

I've always thought he was over hyped purely because of his technical ability and being comfortable with the ball. He's been Mangala like this season in his defensive positioning and decision making.

he is a very good player, whats happening now though is that young players are being hyped up so much as soon as they make mistakes ( which they will) people are saying well he was never that good ....... he's clearly a very good young player, he's just making mistakes now. Imo he's miles better than mangala, younger swell.

Not a popular opinion, no doubt, but for me he is the closest to a Busquets-type DM that England has ever gotten (from an overall skill set). That said, to be anywhere near the level of the spaniard (flamboyant diving aside) he would need to improve his decision making. Luckily that is one of the few things that can be drastically improved by proper coaching and mentoring.

For me he is being wasted as a centreback and is not worth the quoted fee in that position (or even as a DM yet).

Can I get a few responses here please....is stones not a huge waste from our upcoming '150m war chest'... In America I'm hearing stones as the main guy, the top target. That clown from the daily mail already calling stones as our number 1 target. Seems like a massive % of our funds spent on a CB when we have kompany, nico, and denayer coming back. Why would we spend 1/3rd on him instead of going 'overboard' for pogba/Neymar/messi/alaba?

i like him but i dont think we need him tbh, and not for anything near £50 mil! With the right coaching he could be top class mind.

Stones & Denayer to replace Mangala & Demichelis would be very good business IMO.

Guardiola turned a raw 21 year old Pique into the best CB in the world. I reckon Pep could do a similar job with Stones, his ability, vision and calmness on the ball will certainly attract Pep's interest.

I think Pep is the only manager who can sort our Stones. His ability on the ball is unquestionable, but his defensive game needs huge work.

This is a superb insight. I can envision him at the base of midfield, starting play going forwards and he has the positionally nous to drop back between the CBs and make it a back 3 when the fullbacks attack.

On the ball he is, defending? Debatable

by the same token why not mangala ? i know he has been poor to some times atrocious...but when we started the season ,he along with Kompany were class ! i do hope pep has a good look at him and then sell him off , if he doesn't rate him

Good footballer, shite defender

Yep, his defending would get better with time but why bother when Denayer is an equally as good footballer and a much better defender.

For the sort of money that's been reported I just don't see the point. Only plus side would be having another first team, home grown English player alongside Joe and Raheem.
