John Stones

It's a sly move by Pep, to convince me I desperately want us to sign Stones, by playing Kolarov at centre back.

I'm still coming to terms with the fact that Kolarov could be our Centre Back come the 1st game, I don't think it ever actually sinks in that one.

I agree.

Such a comment,by dw7,is unwarranted and wont be tolerated.

Why? United have been mocked on here over being taken to the cleaners over Pogba - the fee and the length of time taken to secure the deal.

The way we are going we might lose out on Stone and find ourselves going for an alternative at the last minute and perhaps dip out on that. Something needs to be done about the centre back situation after last night's defending.

We have less than a week before the season starts. If the price of Stones is too high we should walk away not allow ourselves to be blackmailed as we did with Sterling.

Firstly,i couldnt give a monkeys what that lot do.

Secondly, you,me or anyone else on this forum hasn't got the first clue about the negotiation process for players or the stage we're at - we have just secured some of the best talent on the planet and, with 3 weeks of the window left......we are still attempting to bring players in.

Thats a situation that certainly doesnt warrant anyone calling a City employee a 'knobhead'.

John Stones will get done and our injury situation will clear up - get a grip.

This is your opinion. You are entitled to it, misguided as you may be.

Seems to be the common theme from City fans now. First it was "He's going to City". Then it was "He won't want to stay". Now, it's "You'd be stupid to keep him". I imagine next will be "He's not that great anyway".

Sounds like a way of resigning yourself to what might happen.

All of those things are true. He wants to come to City. He is actually going to end up at City. He won't stay at Everton. And if you do somehow manage to strong arm him into saying it'll be rank stupidity on the part of your new and naive owners.

Also: Moshiri is absolutely not new to running a football club. He has been a major shareholder in football clubs since before you were bought out by the UAE.

You mean he's had a shareholding at Arsenal since 2007? Major shareholding? Depends on how you look at it. Him and Usmanov didn't make any decisions whilst holding those shares. Hence Usmanov is always mouthing off in the press about Kroenke. Bottom line Moshri hasn't ever come close to running a football club before. Going to be a steep learning curve for him.

All decent points perhaps. And not once did you call Txiki a nob head.

On the defending, you may have noticed we didn't have any centre backs starting.

I've got a few hundred quid's worth of shares in Lloyds. Bought them last week for a bit of a laugh after the share price plummeted post-Brexit. Using the logic of our learned Everton friend, does that qualify me as having a hand in running a major bank?

It's looking as if missing out on Laporte was a massive massive blow. Our reaction to him staying at Bilbao has been very poor, we've been far to slow in the market to actually reinforce our weakest areas. We're now five days before the season starts and our squad is in a very poor shape.

Isn't that just kneejerk from last nights performance/ result?

I think he's got a point tbf. We haven't addressed weaknesses with players who will have an immediate impact. Most thought we would address both RB and LB, but it appears the young lads will have enough to not worry about that.
But to not address CB a while before the season starts is very disappointing - we all knew it is a problem area, and last night reinforced that. Toisin isn't ready, and denayer clearly isn't fancied.
To only add one CM is also quite disappointing - if gundogan or dinho gets injured are we in a materially better place than last year? On the plus side, Garcia looks quality.

We have bought some great talents, but I believe we needed to buy more players who will have an immediate impact. We have the worlds best manager - let's give him the tools to make us the very best!

I've made the point for years how our options at LB and CM aren't close to the elite clubs. We've once again failed to address it.

I wouldn't say the squad is in poor shape based on last nights performance as we had a very unorthodox back line (probably due to injuries). Yes, it wasn't pretty, and I don't count the second half due to all the changes being made, but once we get the square pegs in the square holes, we should start to see continued improvement

Not going to argue with your points, but I'm sure Pep would have wanted to see for himself what he was inheriting before working with Txiki to identify replacements. For all we know, there maybe rabbits about to be pulled from hats that we are unsighted of. Several has suggested there are more signings this window (over and above Stones)

I still fully expect us to have a brilliant season. I'm just frustrated that we've allowed the same problems to fester. I still can't believe that we've got the same piss poor options in midfield, LB and CB.

We had one certain CB either out or not fully fit for a large part of the season and look how that affected our season and in particularly our defence.
