The style of play does factor into it a lot. I did a little research and sorry in advance but I don't know how embed things. According to Squaka Everton had 51% possession last season. Compare that to Bayern who had 62%. (We had 54%). However, I think the most telling stats are the average defensive actions. Everton had a rating of 47 while Bayern had a staggering 25 while we had 44.
Average Defensive Actions
Blocks Clearances Interceptions
Everton 160 1,130 509
City 66 980 630
Bayern 46 356 445
Of course you have to figure out the Bunesliga is different and has less games, but Bayern have a lot less stats due to their 62% possession stats for one. They also do more interceptions than they do clearances and even fewer blocks. So even if we aren't at the level of what Bayern was, I think it's a clear indication of how we will try to play. Stones will be asked to anticipate and step up to intercept passes a lot when we lose possession. He may be in 1 v 1 situations a lot as well with the high line and balls played over the top.
