John Stones

Being a cynic I assume there aren't a flock of journalists following City. Just a local Reuters stringer report being spun. It's how a lot of newspapers work, even with important stuff.

Just as a follow up mate, the Mail, the Guardian and the Times are all reporting exactly the same story about Stones on their back page this morning.

Every article mentions City offered £40m and Everton want £50m. Every article mentons they expect the deal to be finalised in the next few days. Every article mentions Mangala is likely to leave on loan. Every article mentions Fernandinho could slot in at centre back.

All 3 journalists who wrote the stories are currently out in Shenzhen. So is Txiki.

I would be absolutely stunned if this story wasn't based on a brief from the club.

We got next to zero coverage of our tour to the States last year, I can't remember if any of the nationals even bothered to send anyone to cover it. This time though, all of the national press have a man following City to Shenzhen and they're all reporting exactly the same transfer stories. I would be very surprised if this wasn't the club throwing the journo's some bones as a reward for covering the tour.
Ogden suggested on @BlueMoonPodcast something along the lines that City were not that helpful to putting players up for interview etc so few papers sent journalists last summer to follow City. This summer with Pep, a few more briefings and player interviews seems to have encouraged a different approach from the press.

It would be nice to get this done so John can have the necessary prep time with pep and his new team mates. Hopefully he can be in in time for this pre season game we are organising on our return home.

@BillyShears ia right, this guy is probably just what our defence needs.

Doubt any two would be signed on the same day (let alone all three) due to the work that goes into it all, even after everything is agreed. Being announced on the same day of course is much easier.

Used to love those mutiple announcements:

He's 6 foot 2 he isn't terrible in the air.

You better watch the 3rd City goal Aguero scored in the League Cup Semi at home.
Just after Sterling easily went by him to lay back for KdB to score the 2nd (remember? the ball that did or didn't cross the backline?)
And it was only a few days earlier when Stones made a last minute foul on Sterling that was a stonewall penalty not given.

All I'm saying is keep reality now we seem to get the player in. Everyone can make a video of a player with 30 brilliant moments or 30 howlers.
This video however DOES show why we want Stones in because none of our current defenders, including fullbacks, is like that on the ball.
