John Stones

I'll be disappointed if that's the case,i love his attitude and his performances are getting better,i think we'll regret shifting him.

Also Denayer?

For me that would be the biggest disappointment about bringing in two new CBs AND keeping Vinnie and Ota. Where's the room for one of our most talented youngsters?

We are all assuming Denayer will be given his chance. I wonder how he has performed this season and if he's done enough or would there be second thoughts to giving him his chance.

No no no. Stones looks the part And is good footballer but we need a strong good defender. Sadly he is not that. Mates who are Everton fans are frustrated by him his positional play is not great and he makes stupid mistakes. They all wish they would have cashed in 12 18 months ago.

What is it with city. Money comes in from Abu Dhabi and we give it merseyside. We are like the merseyside special investment fund. Lescott, sterling, Rodwell etc etc etc. There has to be better players than those down the m62 and I have been very impressed with the progress of mangala in the last 3 months.

For Christ sake. It's actually going to happen, isn't it?

I don't want us to spend £40-50 million on a player that just hasn't done well this season. You can say all you want about Martinez, but some of the errors has been out of his hands. Stones has been responsible for some of them.

Also that goes for Barkley. If real, barca, Bayern, PSg are not interested then neither should city. That is the league we are in (or aspire to be in) and we should be widening our net beyond 30 miles away.

But IF we buy Stones or Barkley it will be on the say so of the manager that bought players for Barca and Bayern, besides where were Barca and Bayern when Suarez went to the dippers.

That's why he is projected to end up at LB.

Again I'll ask you or anybody that think's the same.

What traits do you see in Delph that would make him a decent left back? he treats the ball like a hot potato, he's not the biggest so would be targeted by teams with a decent sized right winger, I've not seen him play any crosses whilst he's been here, would he be able cover for our centre backs? apart from being reasonably quick and having decent stamina I see nothing in Delph that makes me think "he could do a job as a full back" Navas I could easily see as a right back next season but not Delph. No way Jose.

I do, although hard to fathom how much money we have to spend, in terms of needing so much more in other areas.

Laporte was seemingly not on the priority list when the reports first leaked out of Spain, although something has changed that in the last month or so.

It seems certain we are trying to drive this average age down to somewhere around 22-23?
Finally, it seems my kind of philosophy to football is finally coming to City. ;-) I'm loving it. 2 ball playing CBs. That would be magical.

Fans would go bunkers when their confidence leads to errors. But wouldn't notice the uptick in our possession or how hard it would have become for opposing teams to target pressure us.

In the Prem, teams are gonna quickly learn to sit back and hope we don't break them down. That shit that Liverpool, Stoke and Tothenham pulled on us this season, will be a thing of the past.

Frankly, I don't know why more teams don't pressure our defenders. It's such a glaring weaklink in our passing game. Why wait till it gets to Silva or Yaya? By that point we are on good shape. Never understood it. Glad they didn't though :-)

Yeah, was going to say it doesn't bode well for Mangala. Which is a shame, as he's been good recently.
Good at tackling and improved at defending. Yes. But these were the things he was supposed to be already good at. If Mangala had Kompany's ball skills he'd be WC. He is that much more superior athletically and physically. And Komps is no slouch. What Mangala lacks is the technical ability that fills you with the confidence to periodically help destabilize the opposition.

That is the problem.

I thought that it had recently been stated by someone at the club that Denayer will be with us next season.

Mind you, I might have made that up at some point.

It's a common tactic used by a lot of our opponents that they will usually close our entire team down quickly apart from one player who they identify as a weak link.

A few times this season I've seen players aggressively press until the ball gets to Mangala and then they're more willing to give him time and hope that he makes a mistake.

This is why having two CBs who are comfortable on the ball is a must for any team hoping to dominate possession. Especially in the last few seasons where high pressing and counter attacks are in fashion.

He is a lot lke Clichy. He tackles well. Quick off the block. Lots of energy, athletic. Yet he has Better ball skills than any fullback we have. Better crosser of the ball too. You know what just Watch this video:

If you don't see a LB in there, then OK. But every time I watch him, all I see a leftback playing out of position.

It's a bit of a shame no one has pointed it out yet. I trust Pep will see it.

That's the point, really, isn't it?

Doesn't make them bad players, just better served being moved on, so we can effect the required changes.

Poor scouting, that's where the buck should always stop.
Well someone needs to hire me then. Called it from day one. But then again, I'm averse to unskilled defenders. Just don't do it for me.
