Because if we say "sod it" and pay the extra £5m, that tells other clubs who we may be buying from in future that if they hold out for whatever price they want, they will in the end get it. It's all a game of who blinks first, I think we'll win this one.
We'll always get asked for more, because they know we have the money to spend, and in any case the top rated players always cost more, especially English players. In our other dealings this summer we are probably getting good value, so I'm not worried about it, the club know what they can afford, and what their ceiling price is, none of us do, and we're not likely to say we'll pay £50m upfront, so if we do get him for less who's had who ?

To all the people saying walk away from the Deal, who do you propose we sign? We've currently got options of Kompany (who's injury prone), Denayer (who's not good enough), Mangala (who's not good enough) and Otamendi (who still needs better coaching to stop his mistakes)

Not against signing Stones but you could argue he looked no better than Mangala and Otamendi last season. I know he's got huge potential but at the moment it would be asking a lot for him to come in and suddenly sort our defence out. Far more important for the coming season is whether Kompany can come back or not.

Don't understand how he can command a place in our line up when had trouble dislodging Funes Mori for a team who had absolutely zero to play for. The thought of spunking 45-50m on him is insane.

Would understand the logic if it was a deal for half that price, but you're talking world class money for a player who is a long way short of being world class, irregardless of what his supposed potential is (which he may or may not reach).

Agree, its absolute lunacy. No better than Denayer and hes not good enough.
And as an added bonus we are again funding a shit club.

I agree mate. We now a big club with owners that are fully supportive of our transfer business, teams know this, no matter what we say! Maybe we have always valued Stones at 50mil and this is all part of the negotiation? If we can get him for less then great! What none of us know, is what his value to Pep is. If we end up paying 50mil, we might see it as "we've given in" to Everton's demands but there is a chance we were always willing to go to that figure. For me, signing a talented, ball playing CB is the biggest need of this window and our other dealings have shown, we can get a bargain (Nolito/Gundogan) so I wouldnt mind pushing the boat out for the right CB...

Personally, I wouldnt walk away from this deal and leave the lad hanging after he's already agreed to come here months ago. Pep needs ball playing CB's to make his style of play work. After no Laporte, no Bonucci....I believe we should jump in and just get this done. It's not as if we havent already missed on other CB options and it seems Stones has been our main target for months now. For me, this is our most important signing of the summer.

Some blues keep forgetting, it ain't how good he is now it's how good pep will make him, as we've courted pep for three years I reckon we should back him with whatever and whoever he wants, this could be our John terry for next ten years and he would look a right bargain.
