John Stones

We already paid part of the addons after reaching the Champions League semi final. I imagine his 40+ appearances last season paid some as well.

The brief was a £49m deal, which it is; £44m + a possible total of £5m. Without the addons the deal doesn't happen. So if Everton feel they can get the exact same deal, why accept £40m?

So we still haven't paid Liverpool's asking price for Sterling. If the add ons didn't matter, we wouldn't be seeing pretty much every deal involving younger players, being done to include add ons.

I don't understand the thinking, that Everton would somehow accept less for Stones because we negotiated the 'wrong way'. If they want 50 mil, they want 50 mil. We are clearly trying to get a bit knocked off, which, if we succeed, saves money & saves paying out the full amount straight away. If Everton won't budge, we either pay it or walk. Pep has probably decided which. I imagine we have to try our best in both Stones' & Sterling's case because on both occasions we have clearly talked to the player & he trusts us to do our best to sign him.

But I don't understand why it's a topic tbh. No chance Everton are just going to sell him for 40 mil because we play some kind of game with them. They want a lot more, we are probably trying to get him for less, plus add ons as it appears we just have with Sane.

How can you say he is clearly any better though? Denayer has had a great couple of years, breaking into a national side which has a hell of a lot of better options at centre half than Cahill and Smalling. Stones couldn't even dislodge Mori from a lower midtable side last season.
Jones was a regular for Everton last season. And Funes Mori is an Argentinian international. I don't know much about Denayer. He's not played enough games for City for me to judge.

I like Stones very much, but Everton's apparent disregard for the players wishes and their stance of £50m and not a penny less annoys me from a rational and human point of view. Has he put in a transfer request? I thought he had. If he has, and EFC are just carrying on regardless asking for a record fee for a defender. That's crazy. I am not sure how they can justify that, or how they would explain it to the player. It's as if his wishes are of no consequence. No wonder he struggled last season.

City are reportedly at £40m with a take it or leave it offer. I am not sure where the take it or leave it came from but that is how it's being reported, whilst Everton maintain the £50m and they'll talk. That is a big difference. If we'd started out in that position, I could see it getting done, but there's still a lot of movement required.

They can justify it because he has a contract with them and as such that is their prerogative.

I think the 40 mil 'take it or leave it' offer is a figment of the imagination of someone in a newspaper office which has been repeated by the others, exactly as Raiola described re the 'inside track' on the Pogba deal being 'done' was followed by the press, like a bunch of sheep.

Glad to see that it looks like we're holding firm on our offer.

We cannot be screwed over anymore, this isn't 2010.

Cheers mate. I had forgotten that. Even so, we are another year on and Everton may possibly be less comfortable about holding him for a second time. Just speculating though.
They should be uncomfortable. To submit a transfer request 12 months ago, and ignore it and not come up with a solution is disrespectful to the player. And they will expect him to play like a £50m player next season.

fully agree there. i'm hoping that if we hold firm, start turning our attention elsewhere, everton will panic and reluctantly accept 40 mil, they wont want a wantway player for another year

They dont have to justify it. He is their asset and they can ask what they want. It is up prosective buyers to decide whether that is palatable or not . If not, then they simplywalk away.
