Mandy Rice-Davis time. Well he would say that wouldn't he?! No Premier League club is likely to have much of an FFP issue this summer courtesy of the new TV deal, and an additional £110m for Stones or Lukaku will certainly give Everton plenty of temporary wriggle room. However:
1. You've got no European football
2. You're creating the perception of being a selling club
3. No top player is going to look twice at you, and those semi decent players who do will want top dollar.....which will create its own long-term problems
4. If you do unearth a diamond, the rags or the Chavs will immediately come sniffing
5. West Ham, Liverpool, City, the rags, the Arse, Spurs (post 2017) are 6 clubs who have modern 50-60000 capacity stadia. You have a 38000 capacity fire hazard that needs bulldozing, and whilst it has its undeniable charms it's going to severely limit the amount you can generate, notwithstanding that your fanbase (and this is a problem City have as well) is traditional working class and cash poor, and all of which will make corporate investment and the development of corporate hospitality and an overseas fanbase that much harder.
In short you can keep on as much as you want, but if Everton bag a Chimps League spot in the next 10 years I'll eat my hat
