John Stones

If we value him at £40m then fair play for saying so to Everton. Ball is in their court. I say win win for us. I think we have enough CBs going into the season we can spend the money elsewhere. If he does come then we've got a potentially great player for many years for a decent price. Can't see it being resolved until transfer deadline day unless Stones forces Everton's hand sooner.

Maybe Citys position has changed over this pre-season. Maybe Pep has had a look at who he has at his disposal and maybe he is more relaxed about the situation now that he has seen Tosin and maybe Vinne is nearer to full fitness and he hasnt met EM yet

It may have been that at the start of the transfer window City felt this and full back were positions that needed strengthening but now that he has seen in the flesh what he has to work with he is more relaxed and so this take it or leave it position is one that he and the club are happy with..just a thought

I'm desperately trying not to comment too much on our transfer business until it is done. It really is hard to know exactly what City are up to or how Pep assesses what he has seen.

I remain of the opinion that we need to spend, spend, spend this summer although I do like what I have seen so far of our young defenders. Tosin looks like he might become a big strong and very able defender but I cannot tell whether he can play ball like Pep wants. Vinnie can bring the ball out and he can pass short OK but hitting those longer diagonals that Pep likes at times are where he is likely to struggle. Stones strikes me as potentially being better on the ball than Pique or Boateng, he appears tailor made for a Pep backline; the question is: is that worth passing up on from City's point of view?

Hi, Everton fan here. Agree with this post completely, no fan of any club (including ours) should be advocating players going on strike - its disgusting and unprofessional.

Anyway, Stones has met with Moshiri and told him he wants to leave. Moshiri is happy to let him go as long as the valuation is met. £50mill is a lot but we rejected £40mill last year and this year, especially with the extra £££ coming in has seen values rise again so this is about right. Also if you buy him, he becomes the world class defender most Evertonians expect and he stays the rest of his career, that fee will be a bargain.

Finally, I still think we expect him to leave but cant see us letting him go until we have his replacement signed otherwise it leaves us vunerable. We have made a huge bid for Koulibaly so if we get him in then Stones is on his way to you.
Why didn't he go to Chelsea last season? Did they not meet the asking price, or did Stones eventually just decide to stay?

You can have upto 25 players over the age of 22, but only 17 none homegrown, so you can have 8 homegrown players and 17 NHG. You can have as many young players (below 22) as you want. Essentially City have had to make do with a smaller squad.

4 of the 'homegrown' players have to come through at your own club. There are only 4 places available for 'homegrown' players signed from other clubs.

Hi @BlueToffee, no-one is advocating Stones doing any such thing, so I don't know where @@BluePhil8 got that from. I get you want the best for your club as do we for City and I suppose the 15% sell on fee to Barnsley is complicating matters at Everton's end. As it stands though, as far as I'm aware Stones hasn't actually submitted an official written transfer request and has only told the club he wants to leave, can you shed any light of this from a Toffees fan's perspective?

I think people just assumed we were being stubborn last year and wanted more money when in fact, I think the fee Chelsea offered would have got him if it hadnt have been so late in the window.

We flat out rejected a £20mill and £25mill bid earlier on however the £40mill bid come around the 28th August (if I remember rightly). There was no way we could have replaced him properly within a few days. If they had bid the £40mill 3-4 weeks earlier he wod have been a Chelsea player now.

That all sounds very reasonable. It is a lot of money with the English premium added but we should bite the bullet on this one, this being a pivotal position in Pep's system. Hope it gets done soon.

50 million quid seems way too pricey to me at this stage of Stones's career. Maybe a compromise can be reached with a 40 mil fee + 10 mil in add ons based on Stones's development?

Not having a go but don't get the getting a player in first bit ,wouldn't that also strengthen city's hand knowing you had to sell stones to recoup your money back ?and actually reduce stones asking price
It could play out you are then left with a new centre half you didn't need and stones
